Is Padang Besar Still Okay For Bordercrossing

Featured Replies

I need to go out for a renewal of my visa. Currently on an Multiple Non immigrant B visa from Brisbane, Australia.

Is it still okay to cross over the border at Padang Besar or is there anything new I should know about.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Felt 35,

If you intend to visit the Thai Consulate in Penang, the best way

is to go to the Danok (Thai) / Bukit Kaku Hitam (Malaysia) border crossing.

From Bukit Kayu Hitam, Malaysia, you will enjoy the new Super double lane

highway right up to Penang. If you happened to stop by in Hatyai, Thailand,

you can get into a air-con van direct to Penang. It takes about three hours,

more or less to reach Penang. From the mainland, you could cross over by

the scenic bridge..... or you could take a slow drive by ferry. Have a nice trip.

I did it in August this year and it worked fine. Train got in at around 7AM, we through Malaysian customs then went up the stairs over the foot bridge and walked to where the cars check in at the border. The immigration guy stamped me a 3 Month visa on my Non imm type O. Then I walked to the main road and caught a song taw to Sadeo then a bus to Hat Yai. From there you can go anywhere.
