Does anybody have (or can make) a list of edible insect in Thai script with the English names...at least the common ones. If you don't know the names, how many edible insects are there in all do you think? I'm talking about the ones you will actually see vendors selling on the street...stuff like scorpions, ants, crickets and I don't know the names of the others...that's why I'm asking!

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong area...should it go in Thai Food?

Yes that does help. Thanks...I guess now I'll move over to the thai language section to ask for translations as some of these will not be appearing in any of my dictionaries.

A friend of mine ate some in Phuket and had stomach problems. He went to see a doc (not pat pong) in the UK and was told him stomach couldn't digest them. The Doc advised not to eat them as they can cause Typhoid and Cancer. Any truth in that?

well ...true is somepart

your stomach can digest em, coz (protien ,chitin(hard to digest) ..etc) and from nutrition fact , we found that insect has high protein level (much more than egg)

about the harmful

RAW insect - obviously some insects are Intermediate Host of round/tape worm..some are course of meningitis

COOKED insect - some might have chemical residue from insecticide (anyhow after pass heat.. some of Chemical resudue re degraded and degenerated ..for more risk it can happend from MSG
