The steaks for around 700 BHT are very good. The salad bar is good.

Had some awful experiences with their special offers - anything cheap at Sizzler's is going to be crap. I imagine the pretty expensive burgers (350 baht? ) must be good, but why would I ever if I have the Duke's.

So bottom line is, if you want to get a good steak, you have to pay for it, and Sizzler's is as good a place for that as any other.

And while Sizzler's might be overpriced, it's certainly not the worst meal in CM. Have you ever had a Lasagna that was in fact some sort of soup with cheese on it? See? ;)

Edit: Salad Concept is way better for salad but it's also pretty new; not too long ago Sizzler was one of the very few places with good salad in Thailand. And they must be doing something right, the Airport location is always packed.

IMHO I find the burger at Sizzlers on par with the Dukes. Nothing wrong with price.

It's the same salad bar whether you pay 159 Baht or 700 Baht, so IMO the salad bar is the best deal at Sizzler's.

If I were eating a 700 Baht steak, I would not want to fill up first on salad anyway. I think both salad or steak is a meal.. Therefore, I would probably opt for eating steak in a restaurant with ambiance.

I agree too! Don't know what it was like 4 years ago, but its definitely one of my favorite places to eat in CM.....

Good food, fast service, and cheap prices.

Worst meal in Chiang Mai. The Vietnamese Restaurant just down from the Dukes. 4 long time married couples of Chiang Mai some 4 years ago and we have not been back.:bah:

I like that place. It's very popular with the Thai business lunch set.

I agree with Loaded. That Vietnamese restaurant is probably the fastest service restaurant I've experienced anywhere and the food is consistently good. Plus the price is very reasonable. But everyone has different tastes.

I use to enjoy the salad bar too, but after discovering A Salad Concept at Nimenhaemin and the new Coco Salad in San Sai, where in both cases you get a superior salad for less than half the price, I'll never go back to a Sizzler for salad. The main courses I've had at the Sizzler weren't bad - but I agree they really are over-priced.

Check out the new one at Ruamchok, they give you loads and its only 70 baht for 8 toppings!!

Where can we find these, like what "Soi and Nimenhaemin"????? :D

The Salad Concept is on the corner of Nimenhaemin and Soi 13. Coco Salad is in the Mee Chok Plaza - 2nd. floor of the new complex which is located at the corner of Chaingmai-Maejo Rd. (Hwy 1001) and the first ring rd.

100% agree with you. That Viet place is pointless and disgusting.

I see people eating at Mike's and they seem to be enjoying their food. But I wonder how much of the gunk from the traffic are they also ingesting along with their burger? Not exactly the healthiest food stop in my book, but people do go there so something must attract them..

The location is prime. Most are tourist and just goes to show you tourist will eat all most anything.

How did we become so refined?

Busiest business at Nana Plaza in BKK is the Burger cart at the entrance/exit.

Burger patties and buns look the same as at Mike's or Northern Farms butcher shops.

Guess the taste of the Greasy food don't matter after a few 140 baht small Leo's and watching real "Thai Buns" doing the BKK Shuffle.

Any similarity with CM other than beer prices are usually cheaper, and less buns available

Jeez. When I go to Sizzler I see lots of Thai people eating & enjoying themselves.

The prices are not too bad. I think the salald bar is about 159 for all you can eat & that includes soup pasta fruits & dessert.

Methinks a lot of this is anti-American food snobbery. Enjoy your 35 baht rice noodles. Bon Apetit.

Overpriced would be eating in France England or Germany.

Totally agree

Mmmm... snow crab buffet at Trump and free parking at the Showboat. Or, on a really bad night, Burger King on the expressway while crying all the way home.. Good times!

Wow! Good memory. :)

You'll notice I have learned a little and didn't mention

the name of the smoking restaurant incident.

And as a Pom I think I'm probably a whinger not a whinner. I eat out 7 or 8 times a week, so 3 complaints in 3 years isn't bad going... ;)

Breakfast/lunch/dinner is 21 meals a week

take 7 off, that is 14 meals a week at home.

I cook, she cooks.

Whatever I have posted about food has always been

a concensus between the two of us, not just me.

I have far more positive posts about eating out than negative

but somehow, they attract very little interest!

I agree with this sentiment. But wait, there's more...

In the West I never ventured to the Starbucks or Sizzlers of the world (in fact we scoff at it) because I always liked to eat in less 'commercial' and independently run establishments with interesting menus and good wine lists.

However, in Thailand I have personally been more satisfied with food halls and the likes of Sizzler because the environment is often cleaner and the food, although uninteresting at times is far safer and predictable than most independent establishments I have been to - especially in CNX! Sizzler is not expensive by comparison.

I have not been to a pub in CNX that can cook up a better steak than Sizzler for the same price. Show me where it exists and I will hapily patronize it several times per month. I gave up ordering steak for anything less than 800 baht at restaurants in CNX a long time ago and hapily BBQ'd steaks from Rimping at home!

Maybe you could ask them not to put sugar in and if you can see them preparing the food, keep your eye on the sugar and scream when they go for it. wink.gif

Do you believe that you had the worst meal ever in Sizzlers at Chiang Mai? You haven’t lived.

I dare you to try the Mexican restaurant located at the end of Tapae road near the Tapae gate.

My German friend and I threw up twice afterwards before we made it home. Awful, absolutely awful.

I strongly recommend the fish and chips and bet you couldn’t hold it down for longer then 30 minutes.

If you do go, don`t forget to take a bucket with you.
