Overstay Waiver.

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I posted yesterday about something that was totally relevant to "Chiang Mai," but was moved by a moderator.

Maybe I should have asked "where is the best fish and chips," or even "The Pun Pun is so good," or some other total crap.

Either or, a valid question was sent somewhere where it went unnoticed.

To that end I have a further question.

At Mai Sai, north of "CHIANG MAI!" do they waiver the first days overstay and start charging from the second?

I hope moderators are aware that not every place in Thailand is the same, some are completely different and have completely different rules.

so a question from an area needs to be answered from people who are in that area, and not someone down in Pattaya where things are totally different in some regards.

They do not wavier the first day. That may be done if your going out by air.

Also local questions about immigration and borders are often best handled in the visa section, that deals with questions for all parts of Thailand.

Overstay for 1 day is only waived at airports, not at land borders. If you overstay longer than 1 day you have to pay the overstay fine of 500 baht a day for the first day also.

OP

Some posters living outside Chiang Mai, do not read the Chiang Mai forum, and as such a good answer could have been missed.

I for one like to keep up with threads regarding visas, border runs, permission to stay etc. and feel that all such threads should be in the appropriate sections.

Just my thoughts on the subject of threads and forum subjects.

Can confirm it is waived for departure by air, as this recently happened to a friend. ie visa finished on Monday and departed Tues am. No charge. = CM Airport

It's waived (at airports) only if it's a single day. if you overstay by 2 days then they charge the full 2 days.

To answer this question, yes. This is after all the CM Forum, and you should know what the locals are interested in. :D

He hasn't discussed moderation....

I only ever read the Chiang Mai forum unless I'm looking for something specific.
