Ch23
Hi all, Hi so its my own fault of assumption here... last summer i stayed for 87 days visiting the TGF in bangkok. Easily, i paid the £45 and got a 90 day 'O' non-immigrant visa from the Thai embassy Hull; on regards of visiting friends. Anyway after purchasing my flights for this years visit i have found out that they no longer give 'O' Non-immigrant visas. This year i will be there for 63 days. so 3 days longer than a tourist visa will allow. I have two questions: WIll overstaying 3 days be a problem to me in the future when travelling to thailand or anyother country? does each overstay day still cost 500bht per day? is Overstaying 3 days a good idea? If i decide to fly to kaula lumper or another neighbouring country for short return jaunt (say 40 days in to my trip) could i still get a 30 day on arrival stamp when i arrive in thailand? ei so 40 +30 > 63 days. Thanks Ch23
Maestro
As you've mentioned, with the tourist visa you will receive permission to stay for 60 days when your arrive in Thailand. Any time during the last three weeks, go to any immigration office and apply for a 30-day extension of stay. The fee for this is 1,900 Baht. Bring a passport photo along and photocopies of the ID page of your passport, the pages with the visa and the arrival stamp, and both sides of the departure card which gets stapled in your passport on your arrival. phuketrichard
1,500 over stay fee is less than 1,900 and it makes no dif to them. If u want more than 4 days than do a overland run for 15 days, (Cambodia from Bangkok is the cheapest) when u come back or for 30 days more fly to the closest place and come back the same day or have a vacation. lopburi3
It could make a very big difference to the traveler if he was stopped by police - jail. Not a good idea to overstay. He is authorized a 30 day extension of stay for 1,900 baht so why would he want to leave Thailand for a 15 day visa exempt entry or pay air for 30 days when a simple visit to Immigration takes care of it? How can you suggest to do an illegal overstay? Visa rules have changed a lot because too many try to bypass the system. @CH23... go the legal way....Maestro anwered your question perfectly fatfather
roiethome
I am not advocating that people should behave illegally and overstay, although for three days this is a cheaper and less time consuming option, but why do we frighten people about being stropped by the police and locked up for an overstay. I have lived here for nearly sixteen years and have NEVER been asked to show my passport, indeed I keep it locked up in my safe in Roi-Et home, even when I am in Bangkok. lopburi3
Perhaps right and wrong? Because people are stopped and do spend time in jail regardless of it never happening to you and I. The numbers may be few but why not do the legal thing and obtain the easy extension of stay? In this case there is absolutely no need to take the chance. Another factor is how many three days become five days become 10 days? Seems to happen rather often if reports are to be believed.
