Teaching And Training In Isaan

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I've been in Thailand for about 6 months, spent 5 months living at a gym in Salaya and currently in the Silom area getting a TEFL. My dream is to get a job somewhere in the sticks where I can teach English to kids and get some good training. I want to live in the sticks for the people, food, way of life, I want to teach English to kids because it will be a way for me to stay in Thailand and I'll enjoy it, and I want to train Thai Boxing because I love it and it's what brought me to to Thailand. Anyway, additional perks would be a scenic area without too many foreigners. I will be traveling the area next month, any suggestions on places to check out?

At the top of my list so far are Loei, Sisaket and Nong Bua Lamphu. I am also interested in Buriram and Mukdahan. If there's time, I will check out Surin, Khorat and Buriram. Any additional suggestions or feedback on these locations would be GREATLY appreciated, as information about some of these areas is somewhat hard to come by on the internet.

Thanks for reading, seems like a great forum so far :)

have you read the recent topics on living working in the sticks !

run away, run away. change your mind while there is still time. run away, run away.

Your Nirvana would be in the city of Ubon Ratchathani.

World class muay thai campus there ( scenic too. On the reservoir rd).

Multiple universities and probably 100 schools in all.

One of the best places to study Muay Thai is Nong Ki in Buriram. It's on route 24 between Buriram and Khorat.

There are a couple of schools about 20km down the road currently looking for teachers too.

This is a place that could be described as out in the sticks but this doesn't mean that there are a lack of foreigners.

For the reasons that you quoted places like Nong Ki are now becoming very popular retirement destinations. I'm not saying that the place is crwaling with expats but there are quite a few. It is still possible, however, to avoid them if that is what you would like to do.

Have a look yourself. That's the best way to find out.

Thanks puchooay, I'll be seeing both Buriram and Khorat so I will easily be able to check out Nong Ki.

Question, should I have this thread moved to the Isaan forum or should I just post it again there? Would ideally like feedback from both teachers and people in Isaan, but I think the latter is most useful.

Having two threads on the same topic is not permitted.

This sub-forum is about teaching. If you wish to post something in another forum specifically about boxing, you can do so.

Would you be able to move this to the Isaan section?

Soomsam - I teach in Roi-Et. Bang in the middle of Issan. Yes it is quite. No it's not crawling with farang bars or girlies looking for fun as say in Pattaya. Yes it's flat. Yes it's looked on as the poor part of Thailand. Living here is cheap and the people I meet are very nice.

I've lived in big cities all over thye world and I have lived in the sticks. Give me the quite life anyday. No stress when work finishes. No 2 hour commute home - 5 minutes max.

Not everyones cup of tea but it suits me. Go where you want and don't be put of by posters running down areas. If i had the time I could run Pattaya down or "big it up." Go where you want and experience life. If if works out then great. If no - move.

With a degree and TEFL you will find work easy. I have sent you a PM. Let me know if I can help.

Regards - John.

It's an internet forum. We have posters who are not native Speakers, who do not type well and who have unstable internet connections.

Just wondering if you found a position yet, my G/F runs a school in Nong Bua Lamphu, juts hired a Farang couple recently, but still room for more.
