I can hear some of the comments already, however I am having some

trouble.

1.) I have a Non B visa and work permit

2.) I have been in Thailand for some time

3.) I want to marry my GF (don't worry, not bar girl nor young)

Went to the local Amphor and they say they need copy passport (no problem)

Visa, (again no problem) and a divorce decree from my country This is a big

problem since I have never been married.

Do I need to fly to Vegas have a quickie drive through wedding and get

divorced the next day and get the document needed ?

What is this "Eligibility to marry affidavit" and how do I get it ?

I want a true legal marriage so she is entitled to any benefits should I

die.

You fill out/notarize your signature on a form at Embassy and have it translated into Thai and registered at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. That is required for all foreigners. Simple one-three day process as once you sign paper translation service can do the rest. Once obtained you visit any District Office to register the marriage. Form will have your information, names of two people in your home country who know you and salary information and that you are single.

The divorce decree is of course only required if you were married and had a divorce before. Believe the affidavid indicates if you have ever been married before.

What benefits did you have in mind?

American SSI survivor benifits as well as next of kin benifits

I did find a good down load on the American Embasy web site that help a lot

Jeffery, depending on your location and timing, you may want to make use of the US Embassy "outreach" program. Consular staff schedule visits to certain areas and can certify the declarations for you. One if never married before, an additional one if you are divorced.

It is LOTS! easier than going to ACS in Bangkok. The embassy has a schedule of "outreach" visit locations and dated on their web site.

Then you need the documents translated by a certified translation service. Some can do the whole thing by email and EMS, even send the translated documents to the Thai MFA, then to you. PM me if you want the URL for his web site.

Unless US Citizen or living in US expect there will be few such benefits available - you may want to check on that if not planing to return to US.

- If husband reaches SS retirement and has minor children, I believe they are entitled to SSI.

- If husband is US combat vet and legally married, survivor benefits from VA.
