Rider Dies After Plunge From Bangkok Flyover, BMW Parts Found at Scene Suggest Hit-and-Run
Picture courtesy of Khoasod. A delivery rider has died after being thrown from a flyover during a suspected hit-and-run incident in the Bang Pakok area of Bangkok on the morning of 16 April. Police believe a BMW may have been involved in the collision before fleeing the scene. The accident occurred at approximately 07.30 on the flyover above the Bang Prakaew intersection heading towards Rama II Road, in Chom Thong District. Police and emergency services were alerted to the scene where they discovered the body of a male rider who had fallen roughly seven metres from the bridge onto the road below. The victim was identified as Mr Amnat Boonrod, aged 45. He had been riding a Honda motorcycle and was found wearing a white short-sleeved T-shirt under a green long-sleeved jacket with the “LINEMAN” delivery logo. He had sustained multiple serious injuries including a broken neck and a broken right leg. Despite efforts by volunteer rescue workers and a team from the Erawan emergency medical system to administer CPR, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His motorcycle remained on the flyover some 50 metres from the impact site, with its rear section badly damaged. Near the crash site, investigators found debris from a car, including a part marked with the letters “BMW”, which police suspect belonged to the vehicle that struck Mr Amnat’s motorcycle. Eyewitness Mr Pop, a 50-year-old garland vendor stationed under the flyover, recounted the moment of the incident. “I heard a loud crash from above,” he said. “I saw the rider strike a bush before finally landing on the road. He was still wearing his helmet. I ran to alert a nearby rescue team immediately, but sadly it was too late.” Mr Amnat’s wife, Ms Jariya Phokasawan, 26, told police that her husband worked in a motorcycle parts shop and took on delivery work as a side job during his free hours. “He enjoyed the job because he liked chatting with customers,” she said. Police from Bang Mod Station and forensic specialists from Siriraj Hospital attended the scene. The body has been taken for a full autopsy at the hospital’s forensic department. Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage in the area to identify the BMW involved and trace the hit-and-run driver. The investigation is ongoing. -- 2025-04-17 -
