Crime Johnny the Enforcer Apologises for Resort Scandal

Yutthaphon Srisompong, better known by his online alias ‘Johnny the Enforcer’, is once again in the public eye, this time not for his crime-fighting feats, but for an alleged land encroachment scandal involving a resort he is linked to in Ubon Ratchathani. On the afternoon of 1 August, Jonny visited the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) headquarters in Bangkok, seeking a meeting with Pol. Maj. Gen. Jaroonkiat Pankaew, deputy commissioner of the bureau. He brought with him a traditional floral offering and pleaded for leniency over allegations that a resort he built had illegally encroached upon state forestry land in Lam Dom Noi Self-Help Settlement, located in Sirindhorn District. However, police made it clear that the case would proceed according to evidence and due process. “There is no personal vendetta here,” said Pol. Maj. Gen. Jaroonkiat. “The matter is entirely legal and will follow the evidence. Sympathy has no bearing on prosecution.” Authorities confirmed that Johnny’s wife, who is officially listed as the resort’s owner, will be summoned next week to face formal charges. The Ubon Ratchathani forestry department is expected to file a complaint with investigators from the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Division (NRECD). She will be asked to explain how the resort was built, along with her applications for a house registration, electricity, and water supply. The area will also be formally seized pending further investigation. Later that same day, Johnny took to Facebook to post a video apology addressed to suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The former officer expressed remorse for a controversial video he had previously posted on 19 June, in which he criticised the Prime Minister’s suitability for office following a diplomatic conversation with Cambodian strongman Hun Sen. In the apology, Johnny said: “I humbly apologise to Ms Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister of Thailand. I acknowledge my fault for speaking inappropriately and without due consideration. I lacked judgment and deeply regret my actions.” The apology divided his fan base, with supporters and critics alike weighing in on his public contrition. In a related development, further charges may be brought against Johnny as investigations continue into whether the resort was also operating without a valid business licence. Whether Trump will issue a pardon to Maxwell or not, the general implication is that will only come after Maxwell and her attorney agree to conditions. Which is why my guess is that she will wait on agreeing to anything to see what the Supreme Court decides about taking her case SEP 29. And depending upon that the case against her MAY be tossed without conditions. -

Picture courtesy of Amarin The Acting Defence Minister, General Natthaphon Nakpanich, has agreed to allow observers from the United States, China and Malaysia to attend a key border meeting with Cambodia on 7 August, according to a senior defence ministry source. The rare concession follows a request from Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence and comes amid heightened tensions over the border dispute and recent accusations exchanged between the two nations. Initially, Thai officials were reluctant to permit foreign observers, particularly from the US and China, arguing that the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting is traditionally a bilateral mechanism. However, during recent discussions within the National Security Council (NSC), concerns were raised that a Thai refusal could be interpreted as an attempt to withhold transparency or suggest ulterior motives. Consequently, the NSC recommended allowing limited participation by observers. Rear Admiral Surasak Kongsiri, spokesman for the Thai Defence Ministry, confirmed on 1 August, that General Natthaphon had officially replied in writing to the Cambodian side, agreeing to the presence of the three foreign observer nations only for the main meeting on 7 August. In preparation for the summit, joint secretarial-level talks will be held between 4–6 August to review relevant data, finalise discussion points and handle administrative matters. The primary agenda is expected to focus on defusing ongoing tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border, particularly incidents that have drawn public and diplomatic attention in recent weeks. The Thai side has requested the preliminary discussions in order to thoroughly prepare for the high-level dialogue. The Defence Ministry emphasised that while the upcoming meeting marks an elevation to policy-level engagement, it does not alter the fundamentally bilateral nature of the talks.
