Buying Second Hand Car...Dont Want To Get Ripped Off!

Featured Replies

Hi!

I am about to purchase a second hand car, and it is my first vehicle purchase in thailand. How can I guarantee that I am not buying a stolen vehicle!? :)

Of course, he said the car is in his girlfriends name, and she would sign all of the necessary documents to sell the car. He said he also had the blue(registration) book.

I really dont want to get ripped off by purchasing a previously stolen vehicle.....any ways to make sure that doesnt happen?!

Thanks

p.s., does anyone know what a 1996 vento is currently worth?

The only way to be sure is when the Dept of Land Transport accepts the current owner's signatures/ID and puts the blue book into your name.

A '96 Vento would be worth ~90K to 120K Baht, as a private sale.

yepp, pay when cars ID is accepted by DLT and all docs accepted to be transfered to you by DLT

Depending on condition and package could be as much as 160,000..

Yes, correct! For 90'k, you get crab only, so you have to fix AC,, front and rear bumpers,, replace blind headlights, all suspension, shocks, engine mounts, and maybe replace the auto tranny as well. The repairs will be between 40 and 60'k again, plus all the headaches and timewaste. A good one cost about 160'000 Baht, but should be ok.
