Vehicle Odometer Tampering (Rollback).....Is It Prevalent In Los?

Featured Replies

Is odometer tampering a common occurrence here in LOS? If so, what are some tell-tale signs a buyer can look for? Would the producing of a vehicle's (complete) work / repair history record help insure an odometer reading may be actual?

Very common

but as they are to lazy to disconnect like 10k km each year, but do it all when want to sell, it can be spotted by comparing service log with odo.

If only odo has been tampered/disconnected, actual km can be read from ECU/OBD by connecting diagnosis.

If both ECU/OBD and odo has been tampered its the usual signs of wear and tear, pedals, tyres, seats, fan belts.

If speed signal has been removed, this will at some point have been stored in ECU, but may have partly or fully been removed.

Here´s a couple of examples , check interior pics and compare breakpedals!

Nissan Frontier 2004

Nissan Frontier 2005

.. and as usuall no info. in advert about how many kilom. the car is driven!

Ivé had much older cars with prettier pedal-rubbers then the 2004 Frontier here and with far more kilom. i gues .. why dont they change it , cant be that expensive right? biggrin.gif

Stearingwheel can be a sign as well , if it´s very "smooth" and shiny on the outside and still have pattern on the inside.

Thanks, I will have to look into using a OBD!
