Did You Get A Call From Isis?

Featured Replies

I've got several calls from a young Asian lady, speaking quite good English, asking to speak to me and wanting details about my company, such as postal address and email. She wanted to send me some "important documents".

The call ID was "private" and she wouldn't identify herself, except to say that is calling from the I.S.I.S. Marketing Company... from Seoul... I said I would call back, but she said her company can't take incoming calls!!!!!

So, what's going on? Is it an attempt to phish for information? Maybe they are simply gathering data for a directory of companies for sending out brochures - they want to match directors with their companies and postal addresses...? Or is it something more sinister?

Anyway, everything about the call smelled fishy. And because I couldn't call back and had no name for the caller (nor for the manager or directors of the company), I didn't divulge any information. There is an ISIS in Seoul, but they seem to be translators for software applications. Methinks, the lady wasn't from Korea at all (her English was too clear), maybe a call center in the Phillipines or Singapore...?

Has anyone else had calls from this company? Do you know who they are and what they're up to?

It sounds like I had the same Filipino lady call me 3 or 4 times a couple of months ago.

They try to get you to agree to accept a free news letter.

It is tied to financial industry and you will get a farang financial adviser call you eventually.

I dont know if it is legal to cold call to sell financial services in Thailand but I know it is illegal in some Asian countries(e.g. Malaysia, Korea).

The first call may be an attempt to get around the legal constraints so the adviser can call you.

I told them i was not interested on all occasions and the kept trying. All quiet now.

My 2 colleagues sat in same office got the same call immediately after me so it must be from an office phone list they somehow obtained.
