Reliable Durable Mobile Phone Recommendation

Featured Replies

I'm hoping someone can recommend a reliable, durable mobile phone. Every 6 months-one year my current one stops working. I don't drop them, get them wet or leave them in over heated areas. I have never found anyplace that can repair them after they fail.

I only want a simple model that makes phone calls-no interest in texting, cameras, internet, etc.

I have tried various makes, models, prices-to no avail.

Would buying in Singapore or U.S. mail order make any difference?

Is there a repair place in Bangkok or Pattaya that can actually repair failed ones?

I will appreciate any suggestions.

If you get one of the cheap Nokia's from Tesco lotus or Big C about 900-1,200b then who cares if it breaks..Nokia do have service centers in most big towns in Thailand.

If you can get an older one from a junk shop even better. My basic 900 baht Nokia from 4 years ago still works fine. Much easier to use for phoning and texting than my fancy HTC Wildfire smartphone that an English inclusive package insists on providing me with. I love technology but I'm a luddite when the technology overcomplicates life.

I guess if your phones are failing after six months it may be due to something unique to your situation or handling? Perhaps water/moisture related? I have ~ six phones, some of which are 6+ years old and still working fine. What makes/models have been failing for you? How many? Over what time period?

Most major manufacturers warranty hardware for 12 months, so it seems like you should be getting warranty repair service from the manufacturer?

There are tens of thousands of mobile phone repair shops here, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting forty or so. Just look anywhere, they can repair anything.

I also agree that an older, second-hand model might be best for the OP since it seems like it will fail anyway?

There are some waterproof phones on the market, and 'ruggedized' (810F) also.

For a basic phone, Nokia X1-01 is 1,450 baht.

Maybe look for a used Nokia 3720

Stay away from Chinese copies. They have a tendency to fail rather quickly. Usually within a few months.
