Work Permit Problems.

Featured Replies

Hi

My work is sorting out my work permit for me; however I have two issues and wondering if anyone else had run into this problem?.

1. They require my education certificates, problem is I left school at 15 and although I remember seeing my results never bothered picking up the certificates. The results were not good. That was 20 years ago! I could phone the school but I very much doubt they still exist. I have never needed them before; I am very experienced in what I now do

and my company does not care at all; however seems that the Thai authority does.

2. I have also been told I need a medical. What does this entail? Is there anything from the results that would not issue me with a work visa?

Thanks

Perhaps they are asking for university degree certificates, in which case you would not need to worry. What certificate did you get at 15? I only had to show my university degree, not copies of my high school certificates. The midical is very easy. Blood pressure, weight, open your mouth and say "ah" and that's it. No blood work done. They just give you the once over and if you look okay, then they will issue you with a certificate. When you go to the hospital, just tell them you need a medical certificate for your work permit.

Unless you are applying for position of a teacher, no diploma needs to be showed.

The only other time, a diploma is needed is for the change of a visa to a non immigrant “B” visa.

Medical Cert is easy to obtain at any clinic or hospital.

Thanks for comments.

I had a tourist visa. I now have a Business B visa. And applying for Work Permit. I am not going to be a teacher, I am an senior management expert (Technology field).

at 15 you get GCSE - or high school diploma. No one takes any notice of them in the real world. I was just lucky not to end up a dustman :-) ... just had issues when at school - and so was lazy … anyway

So, if you have no degree and no "qualifications" as such - does that automatically discount you from a work visa ? This is the case in the USA with H1B (not L1) and I had to come home :-(. They had a 10 year work experience = 1 degree policy. However you really had to jump though hoops to get it - and was not worth the effort. Never thought it would be an issue out here. My company is just laughing at me because they know I am smart or I would not be here! Turned in a company joke! :-(

Happy about medical stuff - just I am a bit overweight - and hate going to the docs. I have a feeling I have diabetes - and yeh as a bloke I am rubbish for not doing anything about it :-)

The onlky disqualifying illnesses for a work permit are;

Leprosy

Tuberculosis

Elephantiasis

Alcoholism (and they must be very liberal on this, from what I have seen)

Drug Addiction

So - you can be overweight, with diabetes, missing one arm,o ne leg, one eye, and be totally deaf - and still pass your work permit physical.

But - you need to get that certificate!

If you have no university degree, there is a specific form that your employer must fill out - the employer must certify that they have evaluated your work experience, and find it acceptable, in lieu of degree.

Good luck!

This makes sense and sounds like it should work for you given your work experience and the fact that your company is supporting you.

Good luck.

Seems to be a misconception with some law firms that a diploma is required to get a work permit.

This certainly would not be a requirement in your case.

If you continue run into a roadblock, our firm would welcome the opportunity to handle the work permit application. The professional fee is 6,500 Baht plus 7% VAT.

I would liked to have had Sunbelt handle it - I was recommend you by someone else. However I called your office 7 times, always no one was around. I left messages to the point that receptionist knew me when I called. No one replied my call and so I gave up. My company used the commercial lawyers.

Indo-Siam office can also handle this. Contact Khun "Beer" at 02-260-3914.

In the three years we've been doing this kind of work, I am unaware of anyone ever not getting a responsive reply to an inquiry placed with our company.

Good luck!
