Ipad Is Now Pc Free

Featured Replies

Amongst a host of new features - too many to count, really - it was announced at the WWDC that from iOS 5 forward, the iPhone / iPad / iTouch are now PC free.

That means no PC is required to use them. Syncing and backups happen in the cloud. OS updates arrive over the air. The initial setup is done on the device.

This is huge news. If you take a new iPad out of the box, it now won't say "connect to iTunes" - instead it says "welcome", and you can set up everything on the iPad.

If you had an iOS device before and already have an account, then setup is as simple as entering your username and password - all your settings, apps, and content will be automatically downloaded via the cloud.

IMO this was the last missing link for the post PC era. You can now get an iPad instead of a computer, rather than in addition to.

There's a zillion more new features in iOS 5 and iCloud (which is a free service). But this seemed to me the most significant.

well not SO many after all .. but some really nice things indeed.

but iOS 5 is very much stuck on OSX Lion .. (which is a good thing .. because with Lion iOS and OSX become much more close together as it was with Leopard.
