Chiang Mai Quiet, Even For The Time Of The Year

Featured Replies

It seems to me that Chiang Mai is very quiet at the moment. Haven't been here for a while, but in my memory Chiang Mai used to be busier, and I'm talking about the usually quiet month of June. Not many Thai or foreign people walking around at the malls. Or is it normally quiet, compared with let's say the last 5 years ?

There are usually more tourists that have big meetings in June and July. So, far, it looks like they might be going elsewhere this year.

Next month's western holidays begin, if it stays calm on the political front, I think tourism will pick up then.

And yes it seems kind of calm these day's.

Depends what time you go there, after 5pm and weekends they are rammed with Thais :o

Yes, isn't it great!

It's like the 1980's all over again, you know, the time people were raving about as being so much better.

Just with more hotel-, food- and entertainment options.

People will look back on June 2011 and say this was the best time ever for Chiang Mai, it went all downhill after that.. ;) (Even though it won't, but that's personal perception of history for you. History gets better with time.
