July 7, 201114 yr Robbie 'God' Fowler to play in Thai Premier League Robbie Fowler will play football for Muang Thong United and in Phuket later this year. Photo: Jonesy 702 Ronnarit Suevaja, general manager of Muang Thong Utd PHUKET: -- Former Liverpool and England striker Robbie Fowler is set to play for reigning Thai Premier League champions Muang Thong United. Ronnarit Suevaja, general manager of Muang Thong Utd, announced today that Fowler will arrive in Thailand tomorrow. He will undergo a physical examination and fitness test at 3pm before finalizing details with the club. “If that goes well, we will move to complete a contract with the former England striker immediately,” he said. Mr Ronnarit would not disclose how long Fowler’s contract would run at this stage. Fowler’s surprise move comes only weeks after a decision to not renew his contract with Perth Glory in Australia. He stated that he wanted to return to England to continue his coaching qualification training. Fowler’s move is of particular interest to Phuket as Muang Thong and FC Phuket have a very good relationship, feeding players between each other for development purpose. In October, Fowler will visit Phuket when he joins a team of former Liverpool greats to play a team of ex-Thailand internationals at Thanyapura Sports and Leisure Club. -- Phuket Gazette 2011-07-07
July 7, 201114 yr Why move the topic…..and kill the thread? In reply 'Moonraker'………………… Yep, I believe so, I didn't make this comment as an attack on Robbie, or football, (trust me football, puts me in a coma) it was purely an observation, and comment on WP. I think its testament to a system that's so ridged to some and yet flexible to others……………..Maybe I should have posted this in the recent 'Amazing Thailand topic', maybe a 'mod' could move it for me.

He lost the GOD status when he started chucking charlie up his nose.IMHO ROBBIE 'CHARLIE' FOWLER
July 8, 201114 yr Although he played for a rubbish Merseyside team, "Fouler" did give us two memorable Bad Boy moments: 1. the line snorting at the Derby was an inspired moment of prop-innovation (using the white line of the footy pitch to pretend he was snorting substances). His then manager tried to defend him, claiming it was a Cameroonian grass eating celebration, learned from a Cameroonian team mate. 2. his outrageous homophobic baiting of Graeme Le Saux, when he waved his backside in his face, as Le Saux's wife and children were watching in the stands. But he also gave us one of the finest moments in footy sportsmanship when he told the referee in an important match (against Arsenal -surely you remember the days when these two teams were title contenders?)that a penalty he had awarded for Liverpool was not a penalty, as Fowler had only tripped up and not been fouled.

But he also gave us one of the finest moments in footy sportsmanship when he told the referee in an important match (against Arsenal -surely you remember the days when these two teams were title contenders?)that a penalty he had awarded for Liverpool was not a penalty, as Fowler had only tripped up and not been fouled. he also missed the subsequent penalty on purpose, tapping it and making it an easy save for the keeper. then that thick pillock mcateer barrelled in and smashed home the rebound. the berk.

Classic. that would be the same jason mcateer who when out at an italian restaurant with the team was asked 'jase, do you want your pizza cut into 4 slices or 8 mate?' to which he replied 'better make it 4, i don't think i could eat 8'. thick, thick lad. robbie fowler was one hell of a player in his day. talk about knowing where the goal is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcv11hWfzMI
July 8, 201114 yr Looks like it's time for me to come back to Thailand and attend a Muangthong United match! I wonder how long he'll play and when does the season start and end? Guess I'm off to do research on the internet. Wow, pretty amazing stuff. Looks like they play in Nonthaburi so right next to Bangkok.

July 9, 201114 yr A naturally gifted footballer,a shame he is going to be paraded around the Thai Premier League like a Trophy player,he is or was better than that.
July 9, 201114 yr A naturally gifted footballer,a shame he is going to be paraded around the Thai Premier League like a Trophy player,he is or was better than that. I bet he has done the kind of deal they rejected in Australia, namely a share of the gate for the games he plays in. I expect to see him managing a Premiership side in a few years time, and maybe he will get some experience of management here. Isn't he doing his coaching badges?

It will be about right. Earning 1 million per month (baht). If he is earning 420000 pounds per year. Take off the 37% for taxes. A million baht a month is in the ballpark

July 11, 201114 yr Congrats binnsy on Ipswich being back in the top flight. Thank You but the season has not kicked off yet maybe you are in the know?or have a crystal ball? :jap:
July 11, 201114 yr He is 37 right? This means he still can get in fairly good shape. His technical skills should be there until old age. But how will he handle the heat and humidity here? Not the same level of course, but looks a bit like the Beckham/LA Galaxy/MLS arrangement. I think it is a good deal and great PR for the football league here.
July 11, 201114 yr 36 i think, but yeah you're right - he could be great PR for the league. he's pretty unfit though and the heat and humidity are i suspect going to batter him.

I think it has only been a few months without football for him. From the pictures he doesnt look fat and untrained in any way. The biggest concern is if he has gotten rid of the bad boy behavor from the past, and of course the heat/humidity here. Hmm, come to think about it, still wanting to be a bad/naughty boy, and live in Thailand? Not a good combination.
