Hi, just been to immigration today and got refused an extension on my non o visa!

My situation:

Have been on the same visa for 3 years, no problem.

Have an income of about 70,000/month

Got my letter from uk embassy confirming my income.

Went to immigration today and the very unhelpful man who I saw asked for documents from my employer in the uk.

He did not explain what exact documents i neeeded and i stressed to him i need to know what he wants, but all he could say was "need document from employer"

For 3 years i have had no problems with just a letter from the embassy. if anyone could help me and tell ,me exactly what documents he wants i would appreciate it. only have 17 days left to sort them out.

Thanks

Probably want some document(s) that "prove" the amount of income stated in the Embassy letter. This might be pay slips? Retirement pay? deposits to your foreign bank? Be creative. In any case, you might get a a different Immigration person next visit.

Proves again, good to do the extension before it's due, gives some time to gather additional documents if necessary.

Chang Wattana immigration, just showed bank statements to the embassy. Showed them to him but he was having none of it.

If anybody knows of a good company that will help with your visa on the 400,000 deposit in your bank it would be good to know. Sorting this out b4 my visa expires looks tough so may have to go to laos again and start all over, I don't have 400,000 but if a company sorted it for a reasonable price that would save me hassle.

Cheers guys

Sorry to ask the same question again; but on what basis are you trying to get an Extension of Permission to Stay?

If you answer the above question it will be much easier for forum members to advise you.

You can get a 60 day extension. No company would be able to provide for teh 400,000 baht for 2 months if you don't have it. That would be illegal and if found out leads to prosecution and a one-way ticket home (at your expense).

They probably want to see proof of your income, like pension statement or pay slip from employer.

Dave, are you 50 or + ? Are you married to a Thai national ?

You do not provide the information we need to help you.

And things granted to you in the past are no guarantee for today.

it is granted as a reason for extension as i have done it for 3 years. i am under 50 married with child to thai wife.

Ok - thanks - now it's clear.

If you worked in Thailand, amongst other documents, Immigration would want to see your Work Permit, Company's Registration, Personal Annual Tax Returns for last year, plus the last month's Tax Payment Certificate/Receipt as filed by your employer.

My reading is that the officer you got wants to see equivalent documents from the UK.

In short they want evidence that you actually are earning the money required each and every month.

And for sure the officer will also want to see evidence of 40k+ physically coming into Thailand every month.

I guess recent pay slips, your job contract, etc might also be usefull supporting documents.

Good Luck

No, that is not for sure, not based on what the OP says he was told by the immigration officer nor based on experiences reported by members.

daveinbkk77, it looks to me like immigration quite obviously want a letter from your UK employer stating something like "We hereby confirm that Mr. Daveinbkk77 is employed by our company with a monthly salary of GBP ...."

Do not believe this would have been a problem for retirement/pension but one might have an issue claiming employment in the UK but living full time in Thailand (as it appears). A work permit might be expected if you are working from Thailand.

As said they likely want a contract/pay voucher type document to prove employment (and help prove it is not Thai earned money in your account statements).

If Married to a Thai, then many reports in different posts state with 100k in a Thai Bank K.L. issue a 1 year Visa good for 15 months.. maybe a way round the extension problem this time ?

Just a thought as you don't have many days left to get correct extra paperwork

The Op can obtain a 60 day extension from Thai immigration, on basis of Thai wife, giving extra time to get required paperwork for 1 year extension of stay.

The British Embassy accepted just a bank statement as proof of income? I thought they were a little more discerning when it came to income verification....

Can't blame Immigration -- but wonder why you became an exception, in that they asked for back-up documentation to a British income letter....(?). In any event, it was a good call by Immigration, assuming you have no real proof of income. But, there's nothing stated that you must be employed, and receiving "earned" (i.e., wages) income. Proof of annuity, interest, dividends, etc income will do the trick. If Immigration officer doesn't agree, make a fuss.
