Just a warning for those considering The Royal Thai Consulate in Phnom Phen for their next Non Immigrant 'O' (marriage based):

I recently went to Cambodia for a holiday and thought I'd get a single entry Non 'O' while I was there. I've never had any trouble getting this visa before at the consulate in Penang.

I went to the embassy early in the morning with all the neccessary documents and more. This included:

- original marriage certificate plus copy

- copy of wife's ID card

- copy of wife's birth certificate

- copy of wife's passport

As well as other forms from when we registered our marriage.

The two embassy employees looked at the documents, scratched their heads for a while and then told me to obtain the visa in Vientiane, Laos. They said there was no official in the embassy that could issue a Non 'O' visa.

So it looks like Penang is still the way to go. On the bright side of things, Cambodia is a nice place once you get past the dirty hole of Poipet!
