I applied for an extension on my non imm - O (married to Thai wife) visa in July.

Every month since then I've been going back to immigration and being told "Not approved yet, come back next month".

Now 85 days later, so far no problem. Up until today I didn't care if it took 12 months to be approved.

This morning I got a call offering me a 6 month contract back in Brisbane starting ASAP.

So now my problem is this: Can I leave Thailand while my extension is still under consideration? Will they give me a re-entry permit, or do I just forget about it and then re-apply in Brisbane before I come back.

I take it you do not have employment here so you were using 400k in a bank account? And is that 400k still in the bank account? It does not take this long to approve a support Thai wife extension as the norm so wonder if they might be waiting for your account to get above 400k by any chance.

You need to be here to obtain the extension of stay so if you are going down under I would tell local immigration to cancel request just to keep them happy (for next time) and obtain a new O visa prior to your return and then start the process again.

Thanks Lop, I thought as much.

Correct I don't have employment here, but my balance has remained above 400K since I first applied in July.

I haven't plotted your location but if upcountry perhaps they are waiting for local police report or something like that causing the first time application delay. If you expect more overseas jobs perhaps just a multi entry O visa would be as good - you don't have to pay extra for re-entry permit or be in Thailand at a set date each year.

Thanks for the info.

I'm in Jomtien, so I go to Pattaya Immigration. It is my second year extention that I've applied for.

Is the multi entry O still good for one year? Is it easy to get in Brisbane?

Maybe has something to do with the move down there.

The multi is for one year and although I don't keep track of which Consulate does what with a marriage certificate/copy of id card most will issue a multi entry. But I have noted Dr Pat mention the sky may fall again so can offer no guarantee. :o

To be complete: you can get a reentry permit on your temporary stamp, but you would have to return prior to the currently stamped date and appear in person to get the next temporary stamp and a new reentry permit on that one. If you miss one of those monthly temporary stamp dates, I think you then get to start all over with an "O" issued abroad.

Depending on how often you expect to travel back and forth, that might be feasible?

TizMe, unless things have changed dramatically at the Thai Consulate in Brisbane over the last 12 months, I doubt you will have a problem getting a non-o multi. The staff I have dealt with there will bend over backwards to help you. :o The last time I applied, I had no proof of funds in bank or any supporting documents. (I just did not know about it at the time) So the lovely lady who was serving me asked what did I have. I showed her my Vet Affairs and my "Retired" Army ID card and that was enough for her :D Nice people, great service. And I am sure will really enjoy working in Brissy this time of year :D

Okey dokey.

Thanks guys, I thought that I had read some negative comments about the staff in the Sydney consulate but wasn't sure about Brissie.

I'm looking forward to staying in Brissie for 6 months, I can smell the Brekkie Creek steaks already. :o

Ah, the Breakfast Creek Hotel...one of my favourite watering holes in Queensland :D You have brought a tear to my eye TizMe. Fondly remembered, never forgotten :D

Well I fly out tomorrow. I've had a couple of visits to immigration over the last week or so.

On yesterday's visit, 99 days after application "VISA Extension: Approved".

A quick re-entry permit applied for and given. It's all systems go.

The staff at Pattaya Imm were very helpful. Apparently there was a bit of a backlog of Non-Im Os for under 50 year olds awaiting approval from Bangkok.

Yes, you can apply for a re-entry permit, but it will only be until the next time

you have to visit immigration for the approval.

I do not know how this will fit in with your business plans.
