Galloway Lied In His Testimony

Featured Replies

Well he's saying "Come and get me" - British MP Galloway challenges US Congress

Speaking to BBC radio on Tuesday, Galloway said: "I did not lie under oath in front of the Senate committee."

Galloway added: "I'm still willing to go to the United States and still willing to face any charge of perjury in front of that Senate committee.

"I'm demanding that they charge me with contempt and with perjury, I'm demanding it.

"If a Senate committee can go on the international airwaves without putting this to you, without sending me an advance (copy) and accuse me of lying under oath in front of a Senate committee, then I demand they charge me with perjury -- and I'll be on the next plane to face it."

Can't say fairer than that. If the Senate committee have evidence they should charge him.

Put up or shut up.

:o

From what I read - they might just do that!! :D

Just heard on the news that the UN put out a statement that Galloway has been caught/proven to be on the take from Saddam. My words not exact words Kofffffie said...But also that Norm has the proof positive in his hands of Galloway's bank statements proving, without a doubt, the alligations. I believe they said 2 bank accounts. Tomorrow, he's turing the proof over to the Federal Prosecutors and the British authorities!

The are 'puttin' up'! :o

Why can't we have their words then rather than yours?

No disrespect, but I'm not interested in your (usually heavily reinterpreted) words. Just the facts as spoken.

Oh please! Not the dodgy sketches or the awful Sky News re-enactment a la the Jackson trial - that would be too much. Or do think Galloway will bottle?

:D

Well, he already said they were his words not the UNs. So lets hear the right words.

Next we'll be claiming Kofi head-butted Saddam Hussein in Larry's bar.

I'd pay to see that!!! :D

As far as Galloway - he'll deny til the end, that we can be assure of - probably claim it's a conspiracy to set him up. :o

Absolutely.

Unfortunately, I can see quite clearly how curious george will weasel out of the charges:

"Your honor, in my testimony I said that I had not received payments. I said NOTHING about my wife or any organization I control." :D

I thought you said the UN had his bank statements?

And as far as I remember he claimed during the Senate hearing that his wife had nothing to do with it, but he couldn't be sure about the charity he runs, he asked the prick senator if he could vouch for all his campaign contributions which raised a laugh. :D

The report includes a Citibank notice detailing a transfer of funds from Taurus Petroleum to Fawaz Zureikat in July 2000.

The report then documents transfers in August 2000 when it says Zureikat made a $150,000 wire transfer to Galloway's wife at Arab Bank in Amman, Jordan.

The report says Aziz recalled that Galloway "requested the Iraqi government to provide financial support for the Mariam Appeal in order to defray the expenses associated with conducting the campaign."

Aziz also said Galloway expressed concern about the appearance of taking money directly from the Iraqi government but that in December 1999 he asked for an increase in his oil allocations. Aziz told investigators there was a slight increase, "but not very much."

Calling Galloway's Bluff

Christopher Hitchens, on the “smoking gun” evidence against malevolent British MP George Galloway: Calling Galloway’s Bluff

"The critical person in Galloway’s fetid relationship with Saddam’s regime was a Jordanian “businessman” named Fawaz Zureikat, who was involved in a vast range of middleman activities in Baghdad and is the chairman of Middle East Advanced Semiconductor Inc. It was never believable, as Galloway used to claim, that he could have been so uninformed about Zureikat’s activities in breaching the U.N. oil embargo. This most probably means that what we now know is a fraction of what there is to be known. But what has been established is breathtaking enough. A member of the British Parliament was in receipt of serious money originating from a homicidal dictatorship. That money was supposed to have been used to ameliorate the suffering of Iraqis living under sanctions. It was instead diverted to the purposes of enriching Saddam’s toadies and of helping them propagandize in favor of the regime whose crimes and aggressions had necessitated the sanctions and created the suffering in the first place. This is something more than mere “corruption.” It is the cynical theft of food and medicine from the desperate to pay for the palaces of a psychopath.

Taken together with the scandal surrounding Benon Sevan, the U.N. official responsible for “running” the program, and with the recent arrest of Ambassador Jean-Bernard M鲩m饠(France’s former U.N. envoy) in Paris, and with other evidence about pointing to big bribes paid to French and Russian politicians like Charles Pasqua and Vladimir Zhirinovsky, what we are looking at is a well-organized Baathist attempt to buy or influence the member states of the U.N. Security Council. One wonders how high this investigation will reach and how much it will eventually explain.

For George Galloway, however, the war would seem to be over. The evidence presented suggests that he lied in court when he sued the Daily Telegraph in London over similar allegations (and collected money for that, too). It suggests that he lied to the Senate under oath. And it suggests that he made a deceptive statement in the register of interests held by members of the British House of Commons. All in all, a bad week for him, especially coming as it does on the heels of the U.N. report on the murder of Rafik Hariri, which appears to pin the convict’s badge on senior members of the Assad despotism in Damascus, Galloway’s default patron after he lost his main ally in Baghdad.

Yet this is the man who received wall-to-wall good press for insulting the Senate subcommittee in May, and who was later the subject of a fawning puff piece in the New York Times, and who was lionized by the anti-war movement when he came on a mendacious and demagogic tour of the country last month. I wonder if any of those who furnished him a platform will now have the grace to admit that they were hosting a man who is not just a pimp for fascism but one of its prostitutes as well."

Let's see if he keeps his word to be on the first plane 'west' to answer the charges. :D

I always like reading Hitchens.

Where's this declaration from UN you put in your own words yesterday?

Where's this declaration from UN you put in your own words yesterday?

It was from a news broadcast as I was at work - overheard as this story was unfolding.

Here's a little prose y'all might be familiar with? :D

What are the bugles blowin' for?" said Files-on-Parade.

"To turn you out, to turn you out", the Colour-Sergeant said.

"What makes you look so white, so white?" said Files-on-Parade.

"I'm dreadin' what I've got to watch", the Colour-Sergeant said.

For they're hangin' Danny Deever, you can hear the Dead March play,

The regiment's in 'ollow square -- they're hangin' him to-day;

They've taken of his buttons off an' cut his stripes away,

An' they're hangin' Danny Deever in the mornin'.

"What makes the rear-rank breathe so 'ard?" said Files-on-Parade.

"It's bitter cold, it's bitter cold", the Colour-Sergeant said.

"What makes that front-rank man fall down?" said Files-on-Parade.

"A touch o' sun, a touch o' sun", the Colour-Sergeant said.

They are hangin' Danny Deever, they are marchin' of 'im round,

They 'ave 'alted Danny Deever by 'is coffin on the ground;

An' 'e'll swing in 'arf a minute for a sneakin' shootin' hound --

O they're hangin' Danny Deever in the mornin'!

"'Is cot was right-'and cot to mine", said Files-on-Parade.

"'E's sleepin' out an' far to-night", the Colour-Sergeant said.

"I've drunk 'is beer a score o' times", said Files-on-Parade.

"'E's drinkin' bitter beer alone", the Colour-Sergeant said.

They are hangin' Danny Deever, you must mark 'im to 'is place,

For 'e shot a comrade sleepin' -- you must look 'im in the face;

Nine 'undred of 'is county an' the regiment's disgrace,

While they're hangin' Danny Deever in the mornin'.

"What's that so black agin' the sun?" said Files-on-Parade.

"It's Danny fightin' 'ard for life", the Colour-Sergeant said.

"What's that that whimpers over'ead?" said Files-on-Parade.

"It's Danny's soul that's passin' now", the Colour-Sergeant said.

For they're done with Danny Deever, you can 'ear the quickstep play,

The regiment's in column, an' they're marchin' us away;

Ho! the young recruits are shakin', an' they'll want their beer to-day,

After hangin' Danny Deever in the mornin'.

Galloway is certainly feeling the heat now.

The UN Oil-for-Food scandal explains so many things about the run-up to the Iraq War and not finding WMD's. Now, the MSM plans to bury the scandal while it's still alive and kicking. :o

The Senate committee claims that Fawaz Zureikat, a Jordanian friend of Mr Galloway, channelled the money from the Saddam regime to the Mariam Appeal and the MP's wife.

However, The Independent has learnt that despite the apparent severity of the charge, Mr Zureikat is still trading in Iraq and has made business trips to the US with the approval of American authorities.

Mr Zureikat told The Independent: "I have been to Washington, New York and Texas travelling on my own passport with the knowledge of American officials. No one wanted to question me. I have re-started my business with Iraq and I have an office there. Iraqi officials have encouraged me to continue doing business.

So where's the beef ?

The 'beef' is Galloway was still married to his last wife when she ran the Marian Appeal...Duh... :o

Well, looks like that 'prick senator' and others have busted him after all! :o

I thought the US worked the same way as the UK - 'innocent until proven guilty'? :D

I'm not a fan of George Galloway, but I would like to see him have his day in court rather than suffer trial by media; and Hitchins in the worst sort of polemicist.

Let Senator Coleman press charges and see George have his day in court.

Though that's probably going to be after the UK has had a go at him, currently the Charity Commission, the Parliamentary Commission for Standards, and Customs and Excise are all interested in him.

I would also expect the Daily Telegraph might want to have another go at him to try to get the money back they paid in libel fees.

I think we'll be seeing rather a lot of Mr Galloway in the UK press for the foreseeable future. :D

He most assurdly is considered innocent until proven but some of the old time tribes of England need to emerge from the mists of history and make an example of him for all the others just like him. :D

Calling Galloway's Bluff

Christopher Hitchens, on the “smoking gun” evidence against malevolent British MP George Galloway: Calling Galloway’s Bluff

What I found really interesting is the little 10 page white paper written by Hitchens and referenced in the weblink shown in the article.

Unless some of the evidence provided therein is either a complete back of lies, and the documents show complete forgeries, then it appears Mr. Galloway is what everybody thinks he is, a scheming liar and then some.

He most assurdly is considered innocent until proven but some of the old time tribes of England need to emerge from the mists of history and make an example of him for all the others just like him.

What sort of doublespeak is this ?!

"He's innocent till he's proven guilty....but he's guilty, so punish him"

If he is found guilty, look on the bright side. He might end up sharing a cell with Cheney :o

Well, Galloway cleaned Coleman’s clock at the hearing, I remember listening to it and thinking to myself " this SOB is good..." Then I heard Norm in an interview saying that the purpose of the hearing wasn't to argue the charges, only to get Georgous George on record. Apparently, George got himself on record enough to get at least accused of perjury.

We may indict him, and even try him, in absentia, but we will never see him pay that fine, or serve any time. :o

You heard Norm in an interview AFTER the hearing saying " well shucks we just wanted to hear him say that" Norm didn't seem to have any replys or worthwhile points to make at the time, just a baffled look on his face and a slack jaw...so much for the US intelligista and their rapier legal brains

International law seems to be running along the lines of guilty until proven American...I am expecting the USA to be getting another slap in the face fairly soon, then you can all run around like headless chickens shooting at shadows for a bit

Keep your head down TW you might catch a stray round. Guys like GobGob rattle on and hang themselves. The US Senate doesn't need to do anything..

Good to see you posting.

RICH MAN ACTS PAW

George Galloway pretends to be a cat while Rula Lenska strokes him :o

Galloway’s spokesman wishes the cat episode “had not happened”. He probably isn’t alone.
