Curious as to what people are using in Thailand to get TV shows etc from the Uk? (Free)

Also........

Excuse my ignorance but I have also seen many references to "torrrents" what exactly is a torrent and how do they work ?

Thanks for any help/info

myiplayer dot com No proxy needed but I've only ever got good streaming from BBC1

A torrent is a peer to peer file sharing system used to download files to your computer.

I recommend not trying to stream video from Europe. In my experience it rarely works well here.

Just go to the iPlayer website (using a suitable VPN), download the programme you want to view (selecting the Windows Media Player version), then once the download has finished you can view the entire programme without any buffering problems in WMP. Very simple, very reliable, more convenient than streaming or watching live in that you can skip forward or pause at will, and very good quality (even in HD if you wish).

As I stated above forget VPN streaming to thailand its unreliable and slow. If you want full speed streaming use usvideo.org

It seems strange but once you get used to downloading torrents you'll wonder how you ever did without it. Torrents are files shared from one computer to another, they can be movies, music, photos, scans of books, entire games or programs, anything digital.

You simply need an internet connection with a good anti-virus program and then you download a free 'bit torrent client' (there are 100s to choose from). This is a program which helps you download torrents. I use 'Utorrent' - easily found with any search engine.

To find torrents for free, obviously don't search in an internet search engine like google as you'll only find sites wanting your credit card details...You need to visit a website which acts as a 'bit torrent tracker'. Plenty in the list above like thepiratebay or btjunkie, which was recently banned in Italy. These sites don't get closed easily because they store no data, they just search for and connect you with other internet users who are uploading the torrent you want.

You just search for what you want and the site will tell you how many other people around the world are 'seeding' (ie uploading) and how many others are 'leeching' (ie downloading). The system is fantastic because you don't download a torrent from just one other computer, the more people seeding, the quicker you'll download your torrent. For example, I'm in Bangkok with just a 7Mbps connection and I downloaded a 2GB movie this morning in 20 minutes because over 5000 people around the world were seeding it. In contrast, another movie I started last week is stuck at 5% as no-one is seeding, so I need to delete this and find another torrent. Easy.

Your bit torrent client will download and save the torrent to your computer from where you can access it and also start seeding (uploading) unless you instruct it otherwise.

Google is a digital gold mine.

It's just a matter of knowing how to search effectively.

I went to www.usvideo.org but got redirected to unblock-us.com which wants $5 a month. Is this correct, or did I get redirected to a spam mirror site? Thanks...

Typed in usvideo.org and immediately redirected to unblock-us.com

They immediately ask for 5 bucks for a foreign IP address.

So fired up my own prepaid GoTrusted secure tunnel and STILL the unblock-us site wants 5 bucks.

Next?

They immediately ask for 5 bucks for a foreign IP address

If you learn how it works you will see it is not a foreign IP address provider. Its DNS server related so there is not activating/deactivating of VPN or changing IP its all done automatically and your normal internet content is also not affected.

anyone have any doubts try the free trial.

Everyone who wants reliable full speed streaming of uk and us content from the listed providers it supports should use this service.

There is no tunnels, no third party, no vpn server. Therefore you will get a stream rate of 2mb-3mb perfectly all the time from content providers. The Video/audio stream is direct from the host provider (Such as Netflix) DIRECT to your viewing device. No in between servers or VPN's etc. to slow it down.

Use it ALL the time for netflix and hulu and BBC on the main living room tv. UBC .....forget it.

Can happily watch Netflix HD streams all day long without a rebuffed, a stutter or a pause. You won't get that through VPN's 100%.

Setup your router with their DNS and forget about it - it just works. UK/US Content all day long just add your favourite home theatre pc to your tv or favourite set top box.

usvideo.org $50 a year plus netflix subscription $95 a year. seriously undercuts ubc and for much more content and also on demand when you want to watch it. Would recommend Apple TV 2 for this as you have the choice of renting/buying iTunes content if you so desire and also full access to your netflix account on the same device. For Hulu, Pandora, Netflix and a whole lot more channels I would recommend a Roku XDS.

And if $5.00 a month is financial strain and putting you off trying the FREE trial then I guess perhaps its time to think about going home :)

Try the free trial on your pc - pretty sure you will be impressed.

Expatshield is a free VPN, it allows you to watch BBCiPlayer, but it stops and starts dependent on your internet connection speed.

I use torrents - good movies 1337x.org (find users NOIR or FXG)

or Ahashare (user StylishSalH).

For Top Gear or Match of the Day I use piratebay.org, (not .com) and download from user eztv (Top Gear) and Albiondean (match of the day).

As far as I can see it is simply a pay proxy service. As such it will be subject to the usual problems that go with VPNs, with the possible exception of the minimal impact that encryption has on the bandwidth.

Yes will second Expatshield (who's url I got from this forum).

Speed dependant obviously but if fast enough works well. Can listen to BBC Radio 2 all day long if required plus international news up todate.

Try the free trial....

It is neither a pay proxy service or a VPN. It works through DNS as far as I can tell it analyses the security check for IP address on their website bypasses it by providing a false IP for that particular check of the providers site and then allows the Video stream direct.

So its kind of like providing a US IP address to the "Country check" portion of the provider but allowing the stream direct to you. Technically it is brilliant.

It has to be programmed specifically for each individual content provider that is why they only support limited providers as shown on their website.

If it was a simple VPN/PROXY service then any IP restricted content would work using their service. Which is NOT the case. Otherwise they could just say access ALL IP restricted services. For example they are still working on 4OD and channel 5 uk content. And recently added ITV support.

Compare the quality and speed to ANY other method for streaming the supported providers. There is NO comparison.

You show me one VPN/Proxy paid or unpaid that will give you netflix HD playback to Thailand without rebuffering or stuttering it does not exist.

I was using VPN for years here in BKK paid ones such as StrongVPN witopia and some of the other high end ones. And believe me I no longer use the VPN's for streaming from the supported providers on

I never understand some thaivisa users on here. They moan and groan it looks just like proxy blah blah it can't work it will have the same issues as a VPN....its got a FREE TRIAL - why not just try the <deleted> thing instead of whinging about it can't work doesn't work or what is or is not on here :)

Which is why I recommended downloading the WMV instead of trying to stream. Downloaded files do not suffer from buffering, and also allow pausing and fast-forwarding/rewinding.

Very few users in Thailand will have enough international bandwidth to stream video from iPlayer without buffering. I certainly dont, even though I have a 3BB premium connection in the absolute centre of Pattaya.

One other option that does work well here is to use Skyfire on a mobile phone or tablet. Skyfire compress the flash video before streaming it, and that does save up to 75% bandwidth.

A quick reminder of the forum rules:

16) Not to post about gambling, betting, pornography, illegal drugs, fake goods/clothing etc and other activities that are officially illegal in Thailand.

17) Not to post links to pages that contain objectionable material. This includes, warez, cracks, pornography, pyramid schemes, referral ID's, eBay listings and requests for donations. Discussion of file-sharing of pirated material is prohibited, however file sharing for legal purposes is allowed.

This means no discussion of downloading copyrighted movies or TV programs that were not intended for viewing in Thailand.

Can listen to BBC Radio 2 all day long if required plus international news up todate.

You dont need any sort of proxy or VPN to listen to BBC radio. Nearly all of it is available world-wide (with the notable exception of Radio5Live, due to rights issues with sports commentaries).

Most other UK radio stations are also available here without any trickery.

Also the bandwidth required for audio is many times lower than that required for video, and so there should be no real problems.

My reason for not trying it is because the techniques that I use cost less and do exactly what I need.

That said, I probably will try the free trial, just to see what it does.

Darrel I'm no techie so I bow to your knowledge.

However BBC Radio 2 does not work without switching on expatshield-period.

You may well be able to stream it via another site but not directly from iplayer.

iPlayer is indeed rather silly. Luckily it doesnt have a monopoly. :)

Try the Radio 2 homepage http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/ and click on the "listen now" button

or indeed

http://radiofeeds.co.uk/aac.asp

which gives better quality (AAC) on many channels, and an astounding 320kbits for Radio3HD

These are all direct streams from the broadcaster, and 100% legal, and the links are just copied from the broadcaster's website(s) in most cases.

Try www.radiosure.com It has over 12 thousand radio stations from all over the world including BBC radio.

I have used it now for 3 years and it is very good and very reliable. It is also free and you do not need a VPN

Hope this helps you.

I tried it seeing as you have spent so much time talking about it and got nowhere with the FREE trial. I changed the DNS settings like it said and clicked check... result below so I gave up... life's too short to contact them!

ITV player, and several US providers too.

Also very easy to set up,just click the button that does it for you automatically,

in the past have tried several free options but they were not reliable,so happy

to pay a few bob, just to get the iPlayer ,worth it, NOW just need to work out

how to stream content to my tv.

Kind regards Worgeordie

I would doubt you could find one in Thailand as you can't stream Hulu or Netflix into Thailand without the use of a VPN or proxy.
