Feedback? Well its a great place...go and take a look for yourself. smile.gif

It does look like its worth a look on my next trip. Just trying to develop a list of entertainment opportunities ahead of time so I can get focused.

Saxaphone is a bit more than Jazz and Blues.....they do have a fairly big variety but later in the night it moves into the funk/dance/pop territory.....

Well woth a visit, they have a website with who plays on what night, depending on your tatses will dictate what night to go.

Since the closure of Tokyo Joes its the only venue left.

I went to Tokyo Joes once. Was OK if you like the blues and the band I heard was v good BUT jeez it was boring as hell...everything sounded the same 12 bar thing over and over.

Saxophone MUCH better!

There are other places with decent bands but in general the music scene in Bangkok blows unfortunately :(

Recently they started to add 10% service to your bill.

Except for that common scam, it is still an enjoyable place, quite rare in Thailand.

There are several other places around but it is not like New Orleans or Memphis.

If you haven't been, Iron Fairies out in Thonglo is worth a visit.

Saxophone is a nice place. There are a bunch of Thai food stalls outside that are fun to sample. Saxophone has only so so food.

Also nice about Saxophone is they stick to the no smoking policy inside which is good because the place is a little dark. It looks more like an authentic English pub with all of the wood and brick than do many of the so called English pubs in Bangkok. I am attaching a few pictures from a visit last month.

Ahhh....the Saxaphone ! One of my favorite venues in Bangkok, despite the fact that jazz/blues is not really my favorite type of music. I like the atmosphere there. The beer is a bit pricey for me so it is not 'to-get- drunk-at' place for me....hehe....but hey, it is always nice for me to go there every now and then(and the location being a central location is always a plus), sit down and listen to the bands and have a couple of beers or so. And, sometimes I play some pool upstairs. I think for me, 2-3 hours of staying there is just about right. Longer than that there gets boring for me :)

Someone has mentioned in this thread that the music gets a bit popsy/dancey later on. That was interesting for me to know because I hadn't known that before. I guess that happens after 11 or so. Every time I went there, I went early....I think I never stayed there beyond 11 (I usually continued the night in Sukumvit or Silom).

I usually sit downstairs, at one of the stools near the bar. Also, it is a place for me to chat with folks around me and make new friends, both expats and locals, as well as tourists.

Anyway, I like the place :) I first went there in 1991, when I was new in Thailand and when I was working there. Now, I don't live in Thailand anymore but whenever I go there for a visit every 1.5-2 years or so, I go to the Saxaphone at least once.

saxophone is great but they are possible to slip things in your bill and they don't seem to have a proper receipt with details and etc, its written down crap so just keep your eyes open...

Its a Blues bar. The same 1-4-5 progression all night long. Never heard real jazz... as least not to my liking. But I visit occasionally.

I ended up going to the Saxaphone Pub twice after posting here. Food and drinks were okay, liked the music. Ladies I took enjoyed going, but seemed motivated around 2300 to go to a disco.

It's one of the better venues in Bangkok. Good music, not only Jazz...some Blues or Rock as well.

If you like it a bit harder, the Rock Pub on Ratchathevi (BTS) is good and if you like a good show: Tawandaeng!
