Downloaded Movies On Tv

Featured Replies

Another thread on this subforum finally inspired me to start downloading torrents. Now I want to watch the movies on my TV, it is a few years old and only has AV jack ports (no USB port).

What's the best way to hook up my laptop? USB to AV lead? Or should I use the multi-pin port (the one you use for projectors etc)? Are these leads easy to find?

Thanks.

You need to find out if your vid card will output a composite or component signal, if not you will need an active adapter.

Easiest is to purchase a 600b dvd player that has a usb slot and drop the media onto a usb stick for playback on the TV.

Thanks, I tried that but when I put the USB drive in the DVD player nothing happens...

Probably because your DVD player does not support the format you downloaded.

Download a converter such as Format Factory to change the file.

Or invest in a Media Player that plays everything.

buy a media player that allows you to download direct to it and not via the computer, store all the films on the hard drive of the media player, and watch them on the TV.

2nd this option - Media Player - WD Live as an example.

Connect your tv and laptop via a VGA-cable (I'm assuming that's the port you described for projectors). Then stream the movies from icefilms (surprised no one has mentioned this site on TV...), no need to download and store them, all though you can choose to save them.

What brand and model is your laptop? It would help us determine what outputs you have available.

Media player's the way to go.

I download movies to my PC, right click on the movie and select Play To > WD Live and it gets streamed over the WiFi to the media player and I watch it on my big TV.

The TV does not have a VGA port, this is the problem and if the laptop does not output component or composite signal he will need an active adapter.

per Tywais, a media player is simplest route. The WD HD Live costs less than 3k baht and is excellent; have been using it to play movies on my 46" Samsung. Just copy the d/l movie to USB stick and insert into the WD player. The WD has just about every connection to TV that is possible; HDMI is simplest and best.

Agree one million % only way to go.

QED, maybe if you say what area you live in, a member here may be able to meet you and help out with setting up a system for you, going to the shop with you if you are not too sure, etc.

As others have said, WDTV media player is a good way to go.

Maybe that way you'll get to know someone who have has hundreds of movies and TV series already downloaded, buy them a few beers and copy straight from their hard drive onto yours, you'll have a mega media library in 24 hours ! biggrin.gif

New Sony Internet TV's has Netflix and Hulu Plus built in. VPN or usvideo.org required.

Out of interest for anyone wanting BBC iplayer on the big screen in the living room the new PS3 app is a great improvement and works equally well with

usvideo.org perfect streaming. Tried it with multiple VPN providers on a VPN router not such great results rebuffering etc. USvideo.org is really worth the US$50.00 a year simply for hulu, netflix and bbc, itv streaming at a decent rate to Thailand.

To make the best of the HD TV programmes that are now available

it is probably time upgrade your TV to an LCD model with HDMI and VGA connections?

I live in Pattaya but don't really have time to assist in the purchase but if you want movies and TV shows I have 1.2tb of movies and 2.8tb of tv shows, let me know what you might want and I will see if I have it.
