Shakedown By Police At Ekamai Bus Terminal

Featured Replies

This is a well known place to get searched by the police. They're looking for things like Viagra or other controlled drugs without a valid prescription.

If you had any of these in your luggage they would have demanded money from you. This has been going on for years.

Aha, yep, don't travel on the bus with Viagra/Kamagra.

After hitting Ekamai take bus or BTS to lower Sukhumvit, all that stuff is on sale in the open there :whistling:

I walked out of Ekamai bus station this evening (1st Sept). I had no baggage with me as I had just arrived back from Pattaya where I had been looking at rooms for next week

I was walking to the BTS when I was approached by a Police Officer who asked where I was going and did I have my passport with me.I replied that my passport was in my hotel

The next bit was the most frightening because he took me into the trees (I am 62 and no spring chicken). He had everything out of my pockets and went through my wallet with a fine tooth comb.He found nothing and sent me on my way

I have no problem with these people doing their jobs but why search me in the trees. I was shaking like a leaf and was sure he was going to plant something on me

I had a similar experience there as well and it left me feeling most bruised and fragile.

Walking thru Ekamai Station as innocent as a clear blue azure sky a Policeman (Po-Po) asked me to come with him to

the trees.

Now obliging, I went and this is where it got scary.

This Po-Po man immediately slid his hand down my pants once we got to the trees , he was feeling around quite a bit and grabbed a handful of the frank

and the beans.

He screamed in my left ear "What is This !"

'Why You Have This in Thailand ! "

I was really terrified at this point and told Mr. Po-Po that it was sort of like my American Express Card and I cant leave home with out it .

He then proceeded to lick my ear with a hot smelly somtam and cigarette smelling tongue, I was terrified and visions of my Mom baking a fresh apple pie

kept flashing thru my brain.

Alas after being compliant to his search he asked me if "I like Thai Lady , you Have Mia Isaan" ?

Told him my wife was from around Samut Sakon area but that I was fond of many Isaan foods like larb gai , he then asked me for 200 baht so he could buy some fags and bottle of Chang for after work.

I refused and told him prostitution is technically illegal in the Kingdom and asked if I may continue on my journey now.

Po-Po man looked at me with a combination of hate, lust and anger and waved me off out of the trees.

Glancing back to the area of this disturbing experience I took note the Policeman was wearing pink hello kitty socks, so fellow readers do be careful if taking

the bus.

See this crap alarms me because I have a daily dose of 300MG of Tramadol which for the the benefit of TV members who dont know what it is its a seriously strong painkiller and actually synthetic Heroin.

It goes without saying that I have the original box supplied from pharmacy but still concerns me with these fruits at the bus station ??

Good points in the thread about business cards of a lawyer and getting camera out.

Tramadol is a synthetic form of codeine, NOT a synthetic form of Heroin.

They are looking for illegal stuff like fake viagra

If that was the case MC, then why don't they go down the road to Sukumvit where it is sold openly on the street?

Think you need to "break it down" there, hammer time

Get off the bus at On Nut and catch the Skytrain there.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. The next time I will get off at On Nut.Looking back I was the only Falang on the bus so they had no one else to pick on

<deleted>, pack a hamster in yer shorts! Grow a pair and get off at On Nut and wave at the to$$ers from the train...

If you think you might have a reason to be busted then pre-empt them - DON'T GO ALL THE WAY! (to Ekammai) and enjoy the view...

Pretty sad when you have to get off a public bus before you reach the station for fear of getting caught with an unusually firm......

i didn't read all posts on this thread, because i didn't felt like it. i just decided to write something.

and that is the same mentality that the bib works in thailand. they do whatever they want, whenever they want and to whoever they want. except the rich thais ofcourse.

so never use a bus and never go to ekkamai station.

Who still takes the bus to Ekkamai after 10 years when everybody knows that mibs are waiting there ?

Also, after many years you should live Thai style if you don't want to be checked anymore by coppers: by a Benz !

The fake or real cops are still operating at the Ekamai bus station. I got stopped today by some guy in a black uniform, but I refused to let him see my passport and just walked away after he first showed me a badge and after showed me the ID card up side down for 1 second. He also asked if I was travelling with two other guys that looked Malaysian. I just kept saying "you are not real police, show me id" in an aggressive tone and body language. Probably not the best approach if he had been a real cop :)

I was stopped at that very station in February of this year, Fortunately, I had ID that enabled me to be released immediately which most do not have access to, so I was lucky. HOWEVER, as was stated by one poster, "take a photo", that's about the worse thing you can do in that situation and will more than likely cost you plenty, maybe even your camera whether it be a compact or a Nikon f3x. They don't like photos and will not stand for them, I have seen first hand. If your well dressed and have decent luggage get off at the BTS station just before. If not, just pay and go and chalk it up to experience. Speaking nice and firmly is also bull. It seldom works unless your some kind of Henry Kissinger or a well known world class trial attorney. What's the sense of this forum constantly hammering on the BIB. They are underpaid and in many cases ill trained. I've heard this type criticism for over 20 years on these blogs. Do you think it has changed anything , or will in your lifetime ?

Oh I see the light now, all this time I thought it was someone else's fault for them being underpaid and having to resort to extortion to pay their monthly bills.

I should be punished then -where do I wai?
