PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- A suicide attack on Thursday against an Iraqi police checkpoint killed at least four police officers in the country's central province Al Anbar, while a second attack killed another five, officials said on Friday.

The suicide bomber driving an explosive-filled vehicle detonated the bomb at a police checkpoint located in the village of Subaihat, in the central district of Karmeh in east Falluja, around 69 kilometers (43 miles) from Baghdad, police sources told the National Iraqi News Agency.

Initial reports said four police officers had been killed, but the death toll could rise as three others were seriously wounded.

In a separate incident, a car bomb hit another police checkpoint in eastern Ramadi, capital of the Al Anbar Governate. According to police, the blast killed five police officers and wounded seven others, including two civilians. Ramadi is located around 110 kilometers (68 miles) west of Baghdad.

Less than two weeks ago, a series of nationwide attacks throughout Iraq killed almost 70 people. The deadliest incident occurred in Kut, located in Iraq's southern province of Wassit, some 180 kilometers (112 miles) southeast of Baghdad, when an explosion near a goldsmith shop at a market killed at least 34 people.
