Dental Surgeon & Periodontist Recommendation

Recommended Posts

I've searched this Forum, but not many replies for BKK for a good dental surgeon and/or Periodontist (do they existing in LOS..?)

I'm seriously considering dentures (or something) on the bottom... severe gum recession and bone loss now at my age.. due to genetics and jaw/bone shape and size.. no perio disease. So I need someone who knows his stuff...

severe bone loss is usually indicative of periodontal disease , but the actual pattern of bone loss needs to be determined before a correct diagnosis can be made.

there is a dental hospital on suk. soi 41 , close to samitivej hosp.

it has a good reputation and i would recommend it as your first port of call.

for complicated treatment like this avoid local clinics promising the earth.

i believe bnh also has a good dental dept.

if you are considering having teeth extracted and prosthetic replacements , then please get a couple of assessments and treatment plans from different dental hospitals or reputable clinics before deciding which way to go. are your lower teeth mobile (loose).

choose your dentist carefully , a dentist might be recommended to you on the basis that someone recieved a painless filling there once. thats not enough of a recommendation for advanced treatment of the sort you may require.

if you do have severe bone loss on the lower jaw then it might be difficult to obtain a stable lower denture. (when you say denture , do you mean a removable denture or do you mean a fixed denture , american and british terminology differ) and implants might be more satisfactory , depends on the bone condition.

mandibular bone loss can sometimes be treated with the implantation of bone chips taken from the hip , there are many treatment options depending on the suitability of the case.

i'm afraid i dont know of any periodontal specialist by name.

Thanks people.. I don't even know if LOS has periodontists as a profession.

Is Dr Porntipa a dental surgeon experienced in this stuff...?

Taxexile: I know everyone likes to blame perio disease, but I have had two periodontists evaluate and treat me in the USA. Both agree that I don't have perio disease, and the bone loss is caused genetically and by bad-practice of UK dental extractions in the 60's and 70's.. (Extract many molars, and leave the rest to slide around and twist...)

My lower centre jaw-bone (at teeth level) is now not much thicker than the teeth are at the point of insertion, leaving hardly any support. The two center teeth on the bottom (24 + 25) became mobile, and have been splinted to the teeth either side (23 + 26). That's why implants may not even work.. and there is very little gingiva gum left on some bottom teeth... only mucosal tissue. I've also had some bone-grafts in centre.. but you have to have some "good" bone-tissue for it to take to.. and wait a few years for re-asorption. (I've done my homework!)

By contrast, the upper jaw is fine. I'm looking for a fixed denture result.

Btw, what is "bnh"....?

bnh is bangkok nursing home , on or near convent road , i've heard good reports about the dental dept. there. (but only from websites)

if you dont have any active perio disease then it sounds as if you need the services of a prosthodontist , (one who will provide you with prosthetic replacements)

i think you need to ask around at the dental hospitals and dental departments in regular hospitals , there are bound to be some specialists (and western trained specialists at that) in those places.

you could also make enquiries at the faculty of dentistry at the med. school here.
