Single Thai/cambodia Visa

One visa for Thailand, Cambodia

Published on November 02, 2005

Come next April, foreign visitors will be able to visit both Thailand and Cambodia on a single visa, said Vimon Kidchob, director general of the Department of International Economic Affairs.

During this week’s three-day Acmecs summit (Ayawaddy-Chao Phya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy, which involves Thailand, Burma, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam) held in Bangkok, Thai and Cambodian officials will sign a memorandum of understanding on a single tourist visa valid for both countries, Vimon explained.

The visa, which comes as part of regional cooperation aimed at boosting tourism in the region, is expected to be in effect within six months, Vimon said. She added that details of visa fees and the synchronisation of the two countries’ independent databases of blacklisted foreigners had yet to be worked out.

Lets see how this pans out...................and will it affect the Cambodia visa runners.........or will it just be a stamp out and back in, without having to pay?? :o:D

Interesting idea - if it ever becomes "law".

I wonder how it will effect the foreigners with visa extensions for Thailand. Will they be able to visit Cambodia without the need to obtain a re-entry permit for Thailand or a Cambodian visa?

Or could it be the writing on the wall for the perpetual 30 day 'non-visa' runners?

As the proposed arrangement for this purpose effectively means that Thailand and Cambodia will ostensibly be treated as one country, could the powers that be deem that entering Cambodia from Thailand and then immediately returning no longer qualifies for a visa exemption as the person has not left the 'one country'? :D

Probably not, but food for thought... :D
