Printer Problems - Hp Officejet

Hello,

I have an HP OfficeJet laser b/w printer that I bought about 10 years ago. I bought a compatible ink cartridge and the ink powder spilled out. It is not excessive. I went to an Office Depot today and they said it needs to be taken to Sathon Road and the inkjet needs to be clean. Any experts out there? Is this necessary?

I thought I could just buy a new cartridge and everything would be fine. However, when I asked about the replacement cartridge I was surprised to learn that the cost is 3,000 baht.

I hate to throw things out because things are cheaper but I did ask about the Brother laser jet for 2.300 baht and he told me the ink cartridges were only 650 baht for replacement.

I know the compatible cartridges are cheaper but I did not have any luck with mine. If I go the route to replace, what brand + model do you like? I only need b/w. Thanks.

There was a thread very similiar to this recently, I and it would seem most others go for the Canon printer with the ink tanks fitted to the side, great printer, and the ink is only 80 baht a bottle (per colour / black) to fill the tank !! much cheaper and more practical option.I paid 2600 for the complete set-up with full tanks.

You're mixing metaphors. Laserjets use dry toner powder (what you describe) then you say the store told you to have the inkjet printer (liquid ink) cleaned?

Depending on how much leaked, the toner powder can be vacuumed out, and the inside wiped down with damp cloth or paper towels. You can blow the printer out but don't do it inside the house. Wear gloves and wash hands and clothes with cold water. if the fuser was hot when the toner leaked out, it may take a bit to clean out the heated (and fused) toner. Some printers had a clean process that would make a full page of black to clean the fuser roller.. You might have residual black spots on printed pages.

Most replacement cartridges work well, I've seen a few that often just don't work.

If you don't need to print a lot a cheap laser printer is the way to go, often you can get a new printer with cartridge for less than a manufacturers replacement cartridge. Shop around.

When pricing replacement toner, it's also important to look at the cost per printed sheet. Some of the manufacturers sell high capacity and standard capacity cartridges for the same printer, at various price points.

I'm not a fan of HP printers and scanners because their driver software is often very intrusive, and usually resource hogs- taking up a lot of RAM and processing power even when not in use. HP also plays the "razor blade" game where they sell the printers inexpensively, then gouge you on genuine cartridges. That's even more true on their inkjets- but in fairness, they're not the only ones.

If you haven't upgraded in 10 years, you can find a printer that's much faster, with cheaper cartridges and at less than the cost of a replacement cartridge for a dinosaur. I use Brother(s), 2240D and 2140- both around 3,000 THB, but that's just one of many good options.

On the flipside, there are a lot of places in Pantip Plaza and Fortune Tower that will refill and rebuild the toner cartridge for a small fraction of the cost of a new one.
