Hi all

I have been through all the hoops and am done having my data lost and my computer screwed up over simple computer issues.. Not so simple to me but I know they're far more simple then are being presented so now I want an English speaking/understanding computer tech at a reasonable rate.

The problem of the moment is I have an Acer L3610 with a Windows Vista start up problem that comes up as error code 0x80070570. I've looked it up on the net and it comes up as a simple fix since I have the OEM disk but I'm having difficulty getting the disk to boot up automatically when the computer is actually booting up to make the repair.

If it boots up without the program running it will not fix it automatically so someone needs to go in and do it through bios or dos and that's out of my purview. All I get from the locals is the standard solution of must reformat but that will loose all of my data as I can not back up until the problem is fixed as they are interrelated somehow according to the computer diagnostics..

For other obvious reasons I don't want to reformat AGAIN (had it done much to my discomfort about 6 months ago) especially when I know it isn't necessary in order to repair for the tech who is well versed.

Send me a PM if you're on top of your game and can handle this for a reasonable fee.. I'm in Don Muang.. Regards

Vista Startup Repair

If you can't get to that point, you will need to enter Startup Repair from the Vista Windows Recovery Environment. You'll need a disc in that instance.

Follow these instructions in order to create one:

Download and save this Vista Recovery Disc Image to a working computer.

Next, download and install ImgBurn(No need to install the Google Toolbar. Remove the relevant tick). Burn the Image to Disc. Use this guide(skip step 2b)

To get your machine to boot from the disc; restart your machine and immediately continue to tap F12 until the Boot Menu appears. You can then set the optical drive as the first in the Boot list. If the Boot Menu does not appear.... restart your machine and immediately tap F2 to get into the BIOS. Go to the Boot tab and enable the Boot Menu. Once enabled, save the settings. Restart the machine, select F12 and set your optical drive as first in the list. Now you can continue with the Startup Repair.

Follow the instructions and you won't go wrong.

As to 'backing up', you don't need a working OS to do so. Just get yourself a Live CD, boot up with it(as per my earlier instructions), choose to 'Try' not to 'Install'.

It will run in RAM and not install to your hard drive. You can then find the utility within to 'mount' your HDD, which will enable you to access the content of your HDD and copy what ever you want to an external drive.

Alternatively, get a stand alone housing for the hard drive you need to keep data, put a clean fresh hard drive into your computer, and access the information on the previous hard drive via usb.

You then have a permanent portable drive as well for future back-ups.

I know it's not easy but I actually prefer going to Zeer Rangsit (close to you) for all my computer tech stuff rather then Panthip. It seems you have been finding all the loser techs in the past. Jui Jitsu seems to have it under control but you also might want to look for a good tech in Zeer for future issues. It's like finding a good lawyer or doctor: not easy but once you find one you stick with them.

I had vista on one of my machines a while back, I suggest just get a copy of windows 7. Its just far far superior and I have it on all our machines at work and NEVER had a problem yet.

I visited Zeer yesterday to search for a CPU and came across a shop of the 4th floor for notebooks; I found the owner a middle aged man to be extremely knowledgeable about the various notebooks; strongly recommended for notebook's repairs and upgrades

I couldn't find this thread again for some reason. Ok thank you for the tips everyone so far but you lost me here as the puter tells me I can't back up in my external HD which is where I want to back it up to not on a disk.. Or are you referring to the external drive as a "live disk" you have to be a bit careful using multiple or unfamiliar terms with the thick, uninformed, humble masses ;) ..

Your tips on F12 and F2 sounds like what the original tech was doing and I missed it as the stupid monitor they had was on the floor underneath a counter  ? But I'll give it a try.. I know the disk drive is set to boot up second as I did manage to get in and see that but dare not change anything to complicate matters worse so I guess I can try that too.

Can it stay in that setting or do I need to change it back if the problem gets solved?

Of course, if you have the ACER Vista disc, you can use that in the place of my Vista Recovery image.

I do though of course an Acer didn't come with Vista originally I purchased an OEM Vista disk separately and no it is not a copy..

are you able to access the Internet with the system ?

Not at the moment no boot up at all. Just messages saying start up failure and also noted it does not recognize an OS but it has come and gone.

Maybe but not sure if a new hard drive is even available for this computer, when I bought it size led me to believe it was the future and instead it was outdated in less then 3 years with parts even directly from Acer now being a problem.. I'm not gonna lie, it really pisses me off about Acer doing that..

Zeer's just up the road from me, these techs were at Zeer and already been through 3 or 4 in there, now It's certain I've worn out my quota :( .... The tech that lost much of my irreplaceable family videos and jpegs was at IT Square  ..

Ok thank you but this computers days are limited due to it being obsolete all ready and it has enough problems with Vista so adding to it with a new, more complicated software is just throwing good money after bad.

Besides as already mentioned the primary problem is I have important data to be saved and a new program will not solve that problem so you're advice while maybe good intentioned (?) is more a long the lines of a Thai tech and not very well though out..

JFYI I have '7' on my lap top I'm current using and while I haven't had it long I see quite a few issues that I wouldn't consider superior over past editions and I'm a fair bit better then a novice... But that's a debate for another thread..

Ooooooops!! Was that around 3:00PM?? Did you hear a very annoyed & irate farang voicing his opinion of Thai workmanship down on the second floor?? :) The problem I now have is they all know each other and when you go to one that doesn't know, low and behold he calls his buddy who happens to be the last guy you went to who doesn't know and now everyone knows there's an aggravated farang looking to have his computer repaired and they all run scared like rats on a sinking ship and before you even open your mouth the answer is mai me.

I'm tired of the routine, actually I was tired of it years ago but continue to beat my head against the wall thinking there is any way of finding one who is consistently competent so I keep going back just to get disappointed all over again (I think that's the definition of being insane innit? :( ). I thought these guys were the ones until it got to the point of them actually having to "diagnose" and repair a problem it seems all anyone can do like auto repairs is replace parts here without actually ever resolving the reason for the failure in the first place then you're back in 2 or 3 more months for something else. Parts changers is all they seem to be..

He should do this job himself. Though once fixed, he should check the veracity of the drive.

I'd like to try and learn but then checking the drives veracity?? I'm guessing someone else would have to do that test? I've resolved to leaving this puter behind so I'm not into spending big monies to get it running sound again if it's more then just this. Though a hard drive isn't all that expensive and even though a 3610 the drive is probably pretty standard I know the mother board isn't as I just replaced that and it had to be ordered and there was only 2 left anywhere even through Acer directly, none of them new, only rebuilds available..

It's all very simple, especially if you can follow instruction. Just go back to my first post and follow the F2/F12 instructions in conjunction with your disc and the Startup Repair link. Report back if you get stuck anywhere.

You won't do any harm. Even if it stays in that setting it's not a problem.

None of my instructions can be harmful nor are they likely to erase any data.

The backing up instruction are a seperate issue. Ignore them for now. Point being is that there is no need to lose any data unless the HDD completely fails.

Checking the veracity of the HDD is again simple and can be done yourself.

First things first.
