Want To Divorce In Thailand

Featured Replies

I was married in NZ. I am in Thailand as is my wife, she is in another town 2000KM away.

Can we get a divorce without me having to go all the way to the town she is in?

Should be simple, no kids, she can keep everything we have here.

She is Thai.

If you both agree, you simply visit an amphur and sign the divorce register and that is that. Legally you split all assets acquired during the marriage, which includes any debts. All you had before is left out of it.

I believe it is not possible to get a divorce by both visiting a seperate amphur. You both have to sign the divorce registration, together with two witnesses.

In your case the question might be if the marriage is also registered in Thailand. If not, you might first need to do that before you can divorce. I'm not sure if the amphur will divorce a person who got married in another country. But ss far as I can see there is no reason why they should not divorce you.
