I will be moving just north of the city and would like to find a doctor and dentist that speaks English. At this time I am 64 and in good health so I don't need a specialist. Thanks

Shouldn't this be in the Isaan forum?

Absolutely. !!! However ,until the mods move it, Can I suggest that the O.P. ,goes to his local Government hospital ,gets his "card",knowing that NO young doctor ,nor dentist is fluent in English. Older doctors are, if they are over 50 years of age , but you can get very good treatment, I have used the Govt. Hospital system for 21 years.I have never been to a a private hospital. Never will. I have recently suffered from Pneumonia, (which required me to be hospitalised for 6 days)and T.B. Treated and cured of both. Total cost ,including ambulance and primary treatment in my Amphur hospital, was About B 14,000. They knew what they were doing. I did the suffering ,55555555. But cured

First sorry about posting in the wrong forum. Didn't scroll down far enough.

Good to hear something good about the government hospital. I have only heard bad things and seen one of the nastiest scars from an open heart surgery I have ever seen, performed at the local one here. My wife's doctor is at the government hospital but he is a traveling doc, comes out from Bangkok once every week or two. So far the dentist I have seen locally seem to only pull teeth. These were in smaller towns, I am sure there must be better ones in the city.

I've been very satisfied with the professional service, timely appointments, very fair "hospital" prices of the dental clinic at St. Mary's Hospital. Excellent dental X rays done by the dentist and he could explain in English each dental Xray. The male dentist seems to understand and speak English well enough and is not a "fast or painful" dentist. That hospital has several excellent Doctors, keeping in mind each DOCTOR sets his professional fee. The pharmacy of that hospital is very fair priced as far as Hospital pharmacies go. The pharmacy located at the large Korat bus station (between St. Mary's Hospital and Makro) is a branch of "Fascino". Both Fascino and St. Mary's pharmacy can tell you price of both generic and name brand GENUINE drugs prior to purchase. Both have labels on prescription medicine in Thai and ENGLISH. As in most any Thai town often the same Doctor will have set hours at one or more Hospital and may in fact run his (or hers) own storefront clinic on hours that may be very convenient including weekends.

I have been to St Mary's, I didn't know they did dental. I had my wife go there for a while. The only problem was very long waits. Was never less than 2 hrs, and a couple of times more than 4. But that may just be the doctor we had. Thanks for the heads up about the dental. Any example of cost?

That's fantastic. The goverment hospitals here are ahead of medical science.

Tuberculosis Cure

A tuberculosis cure was first developed more than 50 years ago. In over 90 percent of patients, tuberculosis can be cured with appropriate treatment, which consists of taking several different antibiotic drugs for 6 to 12 months. A tuberculosis cure relies on close cooperation between the patient and doctor in order to make sure that the right amount of medicine is taken for the right amount of time.

St Mary's for me, or a government hospital. In a government hospital, if you have a 'Yellow Book', basic dental treatment is free, as per a Thai, if you have also obtained a Thai 'gold' medical card. Which is obtainable once you obtain the 'Yellow Book'. 'Afarang', you've been here 21 years and still paying at a government hospital. Have you learned nothing ?

Yes ,I have. I have no desire to be a "BLUDGER' on the Thai Govt..and their medical or health care system. Do you have ANY understanding of the term "BLUDGER. You like being a BLUDGER?. Because ,you obviously are one, a BLUDGER that is .I am more than happy to pay my way. I really resent your tone of voice. In fact ,I am quite disgusted by your accusation that I have learnt nothing.Yes .I am an old age pensioner ,but I am more than happy to pay for my medical expenses, given that they are ,relatively so small. Compared to our home countries. If you are not a pensioner.Sorry, but something tells me you are not a very nice person. Am I right?

Did I say anything about the the Thai medical system being ahead of medical science? NO. You have made a right proper <deleted> of yourself. You are displaying supreme ignorance. Yes ,My drug regime for T.B., was 6 months + 2 x-rays. the drugs used here are described as "Rifinah". They worked. I am now cured. If you had of cared to read my earlier posts, you would have understood . What you do not seem to understand ,that T,B. is a very serious health problem ,in this country. I live very near the Cambodian border. My local Amphur hospital has a special clinic for T.B. sufferers, it is so common, so many sufferers. Yes you are right, they DO demand co-operation btn the patient and the clinic. So that they know every patient is taking the prescribed medicine. I am so sorry ,that you are such an ignorant person.

St. Mary's in Korat has a workable queue system, especially if the patient obtains lab work early the same day they see the Doctor that ordered the lab work on a previous visit. Seven out of eight Sunday morning visits my wife was called first at St. Mary's since she put her name in the queue when obtaining lab work in the morning. The nurses at the station where you see a particular Doctor can tell you in Thai what time they think the Doctor will actually show up and where you stand in the queue. The Dental clinic is on the main floor and recently I paid 500 baht for dental cleaning, 100 baht per X ray and a minor service fee for the hospital. It's not Bumrungrad but the fees are not similar.

Bangkok Korat Hospital near the Mall has a good dental department that will quote and stick to fair quoted prices. That medical hospital can seem pushy with name brand prescriptions they pressure Thai people to have filled at the seemingly overpriced in hospital pharmacy in my previous experiences. We waited over four hours at Bangkok Korat hospital once since my wife did not understand the queue system and the nurses were not forthcoming on how it worked.

There is also, in my opinion, a very good dental office next to the ELC language school, across the street from the post office, close to the new Klang Plaza. I have been a patient there and have been satisfied with the work of the two dentists. They are two female Thai dentists, who speak very good English and spent their working week between their dental offices in Bangkok and Korat. In terms of costs, I believe they are comparable to what the Bangkok Hospital charges, if not slightly cheaper.

Entirely up to you 'afarang', whether you choose to use what's open to you, or not. I object to you calling me a 'BLUDGER' as I am certainly no user. I, in all my years here, have never asked, or been given charity. The insistence of my obtaining my 'gold card' (free treatment) came from hospital staff where I live. I'm as much part of the community as they are, and I most definitely contribute more to the Thai economy than they do as individuals. Hence why they considered it appropriate to be as one with them. It isn't a question of whether I can pay or not. It's was a gesture offered to me by them. What do I do ? Say 'no' and offend them, or accept their invitation ?

Sorry, but something tells me you are not a very nice person. Am I right?

I went to Bangkok Hospital Korat in March this year for dental work. I rang up and booked for a certain time. I walked into the reception area showed my hospital card from a previous visit for a medical reason and sent to the dental offices upstairs. Walked into dental clinic and onto dentist chair pronto. Two hours later and 5 fillings , exrays , teeth cleaned paid 3300 baht. Dentist was a peridontist (dental surgeon) spoke very good english.

I went last week to a dentist here in Australia for a filling , cost $250.00 aud. approx 7500 baht.

I would recommend the dental services at this hospital.

Thanks to all for your help---and sorry for giving the opportunity for a pissing war.;) of which I see both sides. In my own country I take the free services because I feel I have worked and paid for it. In Thailand, I think I should pay. Nothing is free, somebody pays and there sure are many that could use free service more than I. Does my not taking it mean someone more deserving will--I can't answer that.

I would not call you a BULDGER or think that you are a BLUDGER, but you have no conscience at all. Those gold card or 30 baht program is allocated to the poor thai and those immigrants who in needs. You are a foreigner in a foreign country, off course you contribute to the community as you have to spend your money on buying your food, paying you own bills but you do not pay tax! I doubt it very much if any local govt would offer any farang a gold card, even with thai they have to register themself to a selected hospital, and yes of course you can accept the invitation, if that is, but think with a so-called brain of your and Pay your own medical expenses and stop abusing the country medical care, and again of course if you can.

+1

i second thommo's recommendation of the bangkok hospitals dentists. i've had some extractions done by the female dentist there (as i recall her name theeranuch). she speaks passable english and is very capable and i intend to have her do futher renovations of my teeth. i also intend to have the orthodontic guy there do two implants for me.

very clean clinic, modern and well equipped with excellent support staff - thoroughly recommended.

Sorry, but I have to disagree that BKK hospital Korat is good. This hospital like all the other BKK hospitals in their group is only for money, not for your health.

I do agree with St. Mary's, especially their dental dept, and minor health problems. Other than that most of the Doctors in Korat Suck. For anything that might be classified on the serious side, and physicals check ups I would strongly recommend Phyathai hospital in Sriracha.

That's a lot of fillings! Have you considered investing in a toothbrush (and toothpaste)?

Yes I have both and use them twice a day. 4 of the fillings were small with only 1 major filling in a back molar. Not bad since it was 10 years since my last filling. So thanks for your concern , I suppose you would have many trips to the dentists to remove your foot from your mouth. :jap:
