Hello all,

My wife is 3+ months pregnant, and complaining about back pain (which she had some while not pregnant yet). Gyn told us it was fine to have some massage, but I rather get a pregnancy specialist to treat her. Found one (farang), but expensive (900 THB per hour).

Any ideas, or someone know a (Thai) specialist ? Traveling anywhere in BKK no problem.

Appreciate your feedback.

Thanks.

If you are familiar with Wat Po (located just south of the Grand Palace) I suggest you bring your wife there. You can find many who have been trained in maternity massage either directly inside the Wat Po grounds or leave through the west end gate and their school is one block down from there. Most thais can give you directions to the school on that street. It is one of the best schools for massage in Thailand and one of the advanced courses is maternity massage. Also fairly inexpensive.

The Wat Po grounds also house the Reclining Budda if your familiar, the massage area is located to the south and west of that building, and the west gate is beyond that as well.

Don't know about the massage but I would advise swimming....or even just floating around a bit. The floatation removes all of the new weight from her body so that all her muscles can relax. If she is careful she can easily stretch all her muscles to help them relax and sometimes regular stretching can reduce or even eliminate back pain. If she can actually swim then this is one of the best methods of exercise to prepare her for the delivery since every muscle of the body can be exercised with minimal stress when swimming...it also develops the cardio-vascular system which is really important in long deliveries. Even if she can't swim if she just floats around and stretches and mildly exercises it will help her alot. In the US they have water aerobics classes that are real popular with many pregnant women. I don't know if they have any in Thailand but if not then it would be a real benefit to Thai society if someone would introduce this form of exercise here. In the US many pregnant women swim every day. I'd say that two or three times a week would be a good regimen...but every day would be better.

Great tip Chownah ;-) Did not think of this.

My wife is actually a very good swimmer. Unfortunately our condo does not have a pool, but the missus knows a public pool not too far away.
