An article in the Phuket Gazette relates the story that starting next April Thailand and Cambodia will have a joint Visa program where tourists will not require a seperate Visa to visit Cambodia from Thailand. One single Visa will cover both countries. Now here is the downside. A Visa run requires a person to be stamped out of Thailand(Most often done at the Cambodian border) and then to re-enter Thailand on a new visa thus resetting the clock for a new Visa. If there is no stamping out required after April will this mean that the clock will not be reset? Discuss.

This story comes up in intervalls, but Cambodia and Thailand are not finally decided, yet. Than it would first have meaning for people who do need a visa to visit Thailand, not those from 41 countries, who can come up to 30 days as tourists, visa exempted.

Now, if you stay in Thailand w/o visa, do you need one for Cambodia? Probably still, since you do not have one for Thailand.

If you stay in Thailand with a non-imm multiple probably you can visit Cambodia without needing another one for that country. Guess you will be chopped in and out and back to Thailand on the non-imm.

I think it is MOU, (memorandum of Understanding) which means it has to be

approved and clarified at all levels, even Sgt Nop at the local immigration office.

I think it will be some time before it is implemented, so don't worry too much.

It will make like easier for the legitimate traveller!! :o

This whole idea of two countries - one visa thing is pie in the sky. Thailand and Cambodia's rocky and fragile relationship will soon put a stop to any ideas either of them have about some sort of immigration arrangement. Let's face it....just a couple of years ago they almost went to war with each other!

Anyway, visa runs make a lot of money for both countries at the moment.

This was my previous reply on the same subject:

Lets see how this pans out...................and will it affect the Cambodia visa runners.........or will it just be a stamp out and back in, without having to pay?? :o  :D

Or could it be the writing on the wall for the perpetual 30 day 'non-visa' runners?

As the proposed arrangement for this purpose effectively means that Thailand and Cambodia will ostensibly be treated as one country, could the powers that be deem that entering Cambodia from Thailand and then immediately returning no longer qualifies for a visa exemption as the person has not left the 'one country'? :D

Probably not, but food for thought... :D
