Occasional Babysitter

Featured Replies

In the Pattaya area for four months soon, and wondering what to offer as a babysitter rate per hour. It will be a pretty easy job as it will mostly be while my 3 year old is sleeping during the evenings.

Has anyone an idea of the going rate for a babysitter, for a total of something like 40 hours per week... either an hourly rate, or perhaps a monthly figure, based on 160 hours or so?

I was thinking of something along the lines of 80 to 100 baht per hour, or say 12000 baht a month (live out). But really, I've not a clue. The babysitter will probably spend most of the time parked on the sofa watching tv, but even so I don't want to offer an insulting figure.

If anyone has employed nannies/babysitters over here, would be grateful for some input.

Thanks

40 hours per week, but mostly during the evenings??? How does that work out?

Several reasons. I have a shipping and transport business in the UK, and that is the busiest time of the day for me. It occasionally needs my undivided attention.

I take photos on a 'semi-professional' basis. The ones that do best for me are the evening/night time scenes.

I have friends in the area. As a single parent, there are times when I can take the child out with me on an evening, but there are also times when I appreciate my own company. Any other single parent will understand the latter only too well.

They're based in Bangkok but might be able to help you. I've used them several times and been really happy with the service.

Thanks. The agency charge quite a high rate - it would add up to 24,000 baht per month for a 40 hour week, considerably more if it involved working evenings. I wonder what they actually pay their babysitters.

Could you accomodate a live-in maid? That may be the better option as you will find it a challenge finding someone to work nights (until 2am by the sounds of it!).

You could get a Thai "aunty" to live in and that way your child would get to know them and thus not be freaked at 11pm if he woke up...

A Thai live-in aunty will cost you 8 - 12k a month plus you get a tidy house too :-)

It's a thought.. and had I got the original property I had agreed to rent, a large three-bedroomed detached house - I might have considered it. But unfortunately the landlord decided at the last minute that he had to rehouse members of his family displaced by the floods, and so I've ended up with a two-bedroomed condo. Spacious, but not the sort of place I want to share with a Thai auntie! :)
