Jingthing
This poll relates directly to this current thread : Why The Hate against the people and the country you chose to live in In the thread many people seem to feel that just because a lot of expats vent about problems and dislikes of life in Thailand on forums and in real life, that this actually means many expats hate the Thai people as a whole and/or hate the Thai nation as a whole. Obviously, I strongly feel that is a bunch of hooey! However, perhaps this poll can shed a little light on the actual extent of this alleged mass hatred by expats against Thais. GrahamF
In all fairness, I think you should also start some sort of poll about expats hating other expats. You could have a myriad of categories, after all, one may only hate a certain type of expat.... -Expats who don't own any footwear other than flip flops. -Expats who do own footwear other than flip flops. -Expats who can't speak Thai fluently. -Expats who can speak Thai fluently. -Expats who think they can speak Thai fluently, but can't. -Expats not married to Thai-Chinese women. -Expats married to Thai-Chinese women. The mind boggles at the categories that we could have. The hate could go on and on for decades!

MAJIC
Hating the Message, should never be construed as hating the Messenger. So no, I do not hate Thais or Thailand,so don't falsely construe that when I sometimes disagree with their way of dealing with issues, and which IMO is not the best way to deal with that particular issue, that there is any kind of hidden hate Agenda. Pure and simple, sometimes Expats disagree, and should not be gagged, just because they disagree, and neither should they be told to "go home" And for those that will not allow any criticism of Thailand, remember that Ex Pats pay good money and add to the Countrys finances, and pay to stay here, My message is: "Why don't you go home"? then you won't have to listen to complaints? or attempt to Gag others........... eh! And regarding Thais' behavior, I must confess I do think that they get some things right, especially not to take everything so seriously as we westerners. I agree though that they should take some things more seriously than they do :-)
RakJungTorlae
I know I was being sarcastic again and no one ever gets it. Asdo I that why I get pissed off at just some behavior. And no reason to hateanyone as people are generally good hearted with a few bad seeds.
Jingthing
This is a non-scientific user poll. Ulysses G.
I think that most expats like it here, but the (currently) 11.11 % that hate everything about Thailand all post on Thai Visa and post far out of proportion to their numbers. richard_smith237
Hate is too strong, dislike is perhaps more suitable. There are some Thai's I could say I hate at times due to their attitude, there are some parts of Thailand that I hate. However, I have to place that in perspective, There are Westerners I hate and parts of some Western countries that I also hate. Because we live in Thailand does not mean we have to be blindly ignorant of all its misgivings. No where is perfect and on balance perhaps Thailand is amongst the least imperfect of the imprecate places to be...

granuaile
Jingthing thanks for starting this poll. I and most I know are here because we love Thailand. I have never found Thailand to be anything but wonderful, and most Thai people to be kind and friendly. I've never found the gouging or double pricing many complain of with the exception of tourist sites and national parks where foreigners (not only farang) are charged more. Thailand is a fantastic country and frankly those who think it is so terrible should find another country to live in, one that they like and find nothing to complain about. TigerWan
May I say, the real differentiation in any such expat poll is how many responders have a Thai usually attached onto their genitals? Gonadal satiation is a great instigator of tolerance.
TigerWan
Agree it is disillusioning to discover that 90 year lease is illegal, but a " lawyer" told you it was .( but you didn't know that foreign lawyers can't be .. lawyers . and you have no recourse as lying is acceptable business practice , apparently,. anyway to western whities. I very nearly fell into this scam and only through sheer luck of an office worker's rather stupid mistake did I avoid it. I think the bait and switch on property markets has generated much well deserved ire toward the Nation. Yes perpetrated largely by other foreigners, on foreigners but certainly greatly benefiting Thai property holders and their lawyers, realtors, tax revenue etc., etc. I think that the hatred brigade is made up of falangs that spent lots dough on new, custom built houses and expensive cars only to find that money can't buy everything...dumb resentful types that should've known better... some folks have said that 'the universe is in a state of flux' and to 'go with the flow'...the hatred brigade just didn't take enough acid when they had the chance... Thailand is a fantastic country and frankly those who think it is so terrible should find another country to live in, one that they like and find nothing to complain about. I thought you were just being mellow and uncritical until I came across this spleen sample "...should find another country to live in, one that they like and find nothing to complain about"/ <deleted>. Where are we going to find a country with nothing to complain about? Are we going to have to choose our jobs based on where we want to live? Lots of us live where we have to for reasons other than an inate attraction to the place or its people. For me, that was true in Middlesbrough and Merseyside and I never chose any of my subsequent jobs based on a particular preference of one place to another, Even when I declined the antipodes or the middle kingdom, it was as much about rejecting the job as rejecting the place. So please, don;t expect us to be happy with our place of current residence, nor to refrain from grumbling about the shortcomings of our residence, whether it is the best we could have or not. Many of us believe that nowhere is perfect, and therefore there are always opportunities for improvement. Surely few of us object to identifying such opportunities? eek
Although not wishing to roll off that old cliche' of "every place has its good and bad points"..it is of course true. There are many elements i love about Thailand, but im not blind nor immune to the bad points (those in particular that affect me). The flippant blase' attitude towards important issues, or general standards (such as repair of products etc) is a frustrating factor. Downright distressing in fact when it comes to important factures such as health related issues. Thai attitudes of "never mind" or fobbing off and never accepting blame etc...comes across as cowardly. In truth i have little faith in Thai workmanship or healthcare...and I have doubt when it comes to general logic and thought processing.
