Standing on the Bridge facing burma if you go along the river on the Thai side to your left you will see several guest houses along this road. There is one that starts at 250 baht std or 350 superior room that isn't bad. Can't remember the name but you will see a couple of signs. Lots of other choices as well and i am sure some other members can give you names etc.

I used to always spend the night in Mae Sai as it can be a bit interesting to roam around after all teh day trippers/shoppers/visa runners have left. It can also get pretty cool this time of year.

If you walk to the right of the bridge at night about 1/2 km or so you may notice a small place on your left where several ladies will be happy to greet you....and i am sure a little exploration could find most anything a guy could want. Chiang Khong can be fun but almost all backpackers there on their way to Laos.

I hope you know there are now mini green buses that run from the old bus station that appear to be quite nice.

I know of the green buses that seat around 24, i travelled to Chiang Rai on one some 6 months ago and really enjoyed the ride, big comfy seats, video, and just very relaxing.

I take it thats what you were thinking of? looked at flying out but decided not this time, i used Mae Sot before and quite liked the look of the town there.

Thanks for your reply, Kevin

The mini busses are new. They are run by the Green Bus Company and from having followed a couple seem to drive safer than most vans. Cost is 50 baht. They leave every half hour.

I am not sure what you mean by the "big" bus station, but they do run from the "old" bus station. Not sure about the new bus station.
