Bnh Hospital Experiences Who Has Them?

I been considering getting some work done on my back, surgery in fact and one of the places I am strongly considering is BNH Hospital Spinal Clinic in Bangkok. I was curious if anyone has any experiences with Dr.Wicharn or any other doctors under his staff and how the procedure went for you.

Yes, he operated on my sister twice (different parts iof the spine...cervical and then lumbar 2 years later).

Excellent results and I highly recommend him.

Of course, surgery is not indicated for every problem, and it is important to understand that the presence of pain and the presence of some structural abnormalities such as a prolapsed disc do nto necessarily mean one causes the other. If there is any doubt, they can do nerve conduction studies to determine whether or not the lesion suspected to be the cause is, in fact, the cause of the pain.

Hello Krey --- I had back surgery (L5/S1) at BNH in mid-2005. Dr Wicharn did a Total Artificial Disc Replacement for me after a chronicly prolapsed disc and 3 episodes of being laid up for 48-72 hours within the same number of months. Surgery was the last option, after 3 months of unsuccessful physio.

So far - it has been a complete success - no pain, able to exercise freely, sit for extended periods etc etc. I don't live in BKK any more, but I still come back once a year for an annual x-ray and general check up with Dr Wicharn ... the artificial disc is positioned dead centre in my vertebrae (anecdotally this seems v. important in the results of artificial disc procedures, and is really dependant on the skill of the surgeon - it's considered a tricky procedure), and from the spacing and so on shows no discernible wear and tear. Hope it continues for a long time!!

Nonetheless, whilst I do recommend Dr Wicharn and co at BNH, I would always get at least one more opinion from another doc at a different hospital.. I actually started my back treatment at Bumrungrad but switched to BNH later on because I wasn't 100% comfortable with Bumrungrad. Whilst I'm glad I did, for other folks though, that process might be in reverse, you might decide you are more comfortable with another doc than K. Wicharn.

I hope this helps.
