Malaysia introduces new requirements for work visas

PATTANI: -- Malaysia has introduced stricter requirements--including language training--for all foreign workers applying for work visas.

Pattani Provincial Labour Officer Kriangkrai Jantirayeunyong said foreigners applying for work visas in Malaysia are now required to undergo a 30-hour training in either English or Bahasa Malaysia (Malay), 10 hours of cultural training and 20 hours of legal training.

Applicants without certification of attending the 60 hour training requirement will be ineligible for work permits. The rules are now being applied for foreign workers in all categories--excluding maids and those working in the agricultural sector.

Thais who wish to apply for work permits in Malaysia, he said, can contact the provincial labour office for advice.
