I am being told I cannot sell my vehicle to another person because I do not have a work permit?

Told it is a new law or something???

I have a friend who wants to buy my jeep but I am being told we will not be able to get the book changed over?

Help if anyone knows the rules. I have had the jeep for 10 years now in my name and have paid taxes and inpected it every year with no problems.

Thanks

Selling your own car is not working and you don't need a work permit for that.

Being a car sales person is working and you would need a work permit for that, which you probably wouldn't get as salespeson is a restricted job.

Do you need more than a 30 day waiver or a tourist visa though?

Must admit I do not know.

Most DLT require valid permit to stay at point of transfer ownership. any permit, entrystamp 14 days or whatever.

a few also require certficate of residence when selling

WP is indeed not needed, but if a DLT employee require one, present certificate of residence and they will accept it

You don't need workpermit and you don't need visa.

I'm not sure what the officials are looking for, something formal concerning your address probably

Thanks for all the quick responses as I am now being told to pay 50 dollars for a residency letter from the U S Embassy and this will suffice. Hope so as I need to leave here soon and don't want to sell a vehicle and have it kept in my name...

Check with immigration how soon they can issue a letter of residence (providing you do 90 day reports) it is supposed to be free (although some seem to ask for up to 500 baht).

You can get a residence letter from your local immigration office, some places for free, some places require a donation of 200 Baht.

Edit: when I sold my car all the dealer was interested in was a copy of my passport and my signature.

If you already have a buyer, transfer can take place at buyers province DLT, and they may not require anything but your passportcopy with valid permit to stay

or get the certificate of residence from your local immigration for free or a couple of hundred tea money

But you sold your car to a dealer, I am selling to another foreigner...Different game...

Thanks

Dan

It should not be any different...at least the paperwork....if you have the address(and you must have it I believe),I would just go to your local Ampher and get the residency statement,it's probably free,or 20 baht...I would try this first...:)

its only diffcult DLT requiring this from farang seller. They have no need to know where you live after you have sold. Fix, transfer at another DLT

as said, most DLT do not require it from seller, only buyer

My experience is that BKK is strict and by the book.

Sold my bike couple of years ago and requirements same as for buyer. Including non-imm visa and embassy letter.

This was the Sukhumvit DLT.

Khun Dan.

I think most of the answers you have got are quite confusing. So here we go. You need:

Copy of the main page of your passport.

Copy of a valid visa.

Copy of the latest extension of your visa.

Confirmation of adress, either yellow book or a confirmation from immigration of your adress. (remember to bring 2 photos)

If your buyer is farang, he will need exactly the same set of papers.

No reason whatsoever to get your embassy involved ! On a sidenote, you are a lucky man to live in Krasang, a lovely town.

Good luck

One has to remember the requirements differ between offices. Even above is not 100%, valid non-imm visa will do. No extensions required or if you are in one year extension of stay then no visa required. Never been asked photos either, maybe that is requirement in Krasang?

The official web pages list down following for seller and buyer:

Passport

Valid non-imm visa (or extension of stay or PR)

Proof of address (yellow book / work permit / immigration letter / embassy letter)

Transfer forms filled and signed

Vehicle registration book

To be noted that in BKK embassy letter is always asked and the norm, elsewhere immigration letter is the norm in case WP or yellow book not available.

You need copies of everything and copy of passport usually means copy of the cover page with details + visa + latest entry stamp + arrival/departure card (TM form).

All copies as "certified true copy" meaning sign all pages.

So above should work everywhere, even in those difficult locations playing by the book. But TiT so YMMV IMHO rolleyes.gif

could you provide a link to those "official webpages" requiring seller or buyer to have non imm visa? I have never had one and done approx 30 purchases and 25 sales transfers during 9 years in different DLT, and I have never been asked for one, and I am sure not getting married to get one :)

3 of my car purchases have been financed by a major financecompany, of course without Non Imm

Can't get more official than that. Anyhow this is where my wife got it couple of years back. Yes i know my reading skills are not there yet. Also same was confirmed by Mo Chit and Sukhumvit DLT's over the phone.

Now in this and other threads you claim getting all business done in any DLT without non-imm visa. As i said possible especially when using dealers or "agents" but do you have anything to back it up that rules and regulations actually allow all this without a non-imm visa?

Or maybe someone else have actually read the official requirements before?

No links to back up my experience, just been presenting passport and certificate of residence past 9 years, and its worked on approx 30 purchases and and 25 sales transfers without any questions. Never used an agent. Often neen asked for WP, but certificate of residnece has always solved it.

can not find any non imm requirement in above link

Calling a DLT and asking "does farang need non imm visa and workpermit", the reply will of course be YES. Thai culture. In addition reply may be colored by girlfriends and wives.

have always heard this rumour tho, and like 7 years ago the head poncho of Phuket DLT stated same in a Phuket Gazette FAQ, but in reality, no. The head ponchos of Phuket DLT have stated many things, among them they are unwilling to register samlors, despite being homoleg and approved by central Government, such as Tiger Retro
