Airline launches maiden flight with transsexual attendants

New PC Air on Thursday took officials and journalists on its maiden flight out of Bangkok under the ministrations of four third sex flight attendants.

The privately-owned Thai airline’s management prides itself on its equal-opportunity employment policy for transsexuals.

It invited about 100 Civil Aviation officials and journalists on its inaugural flight from Bangkok to Surat Thani, 530 kilometres south, and back again.

"Today, we are ready to embark on the new journey and we would like to introduce our four transsexual angels," PC Air president Peter Can told the passengers before take off.

The airline, founded in 2010, made a media splash last year when it encouraged third sex candidates to apply for flight attendant positions.

The cabin crew also included, 19 female and seven male flight attendants, as well as the transsexuals, airline sources said.

PC Air is to specialize in charter flights.

"Today is our proving flight with our well-trained cabin crew who has passed all the requirements by Department of Civil Aviation," Chan said. "PC Air assures you of safety and we are ready to serve all our passengers."

Thailand has a relatively high rate and social acceptance of male-to-female transsexuals, but rights campaigners have pointed to discrimination and intolerance from institutions and employers.

Great idea, many foreigners are fascinated by ladyboys, most people I know can't tell the difference between a ladyboy and a lady, until they speak of course. Why not put them on long distant flights, I think it would boost tourism here, too.

It's not only in Thailand, in England people travel to Manchester's Canal Street to enjoy the gay pubs and clubs. In Australia they have big Gay Pride parades, in most cities in the US there are Gay Pride parades so why not have ladyboy air stewards. Come on this is 2011 the world is a different place. People want more varity in their lives, Thailand leads the way.

As an American, I would take the "third genders" (who work hard to look like a "perfect female") over the unsmiling, granny bully flight attendants they have on Delta and United Airlines.

So out of 30 FA's, 4 are transgender.. And this is news?

Just about any airline on the planet manages a similar or larger percentages of gay FA's, sometimes quite obviously so. I don't really see why this is news.

I always thought that all the male cabin crew on Quantas were gay because it was safer for them up there.

Or so I was told by a Fosters swilling Aussie "bloke" one time.

"GRANNY BULLY" hahaha Ya, I noticed that myself, I thought Delta might be a record holder for oldest average attendant.:yohan:

Forget "truly asia", this is just truly pathetic.

Exploiting transexuals for cheap headlines to exploit sad sexpats to pay premium prices for crap flights, boy sounds like Hooters Air, another memorable commercial disaster.

Let's hope it's another short-lived tacky gimmick masquerading as an airline.

If you think you can always see the difference then you're not looking close enough, that's all
