Need To Find The Best Orthopaedic Surgeon

Featured Replies

I've put this in the General forum because I need a quick answer.

A friend in Pattaya smashed his knee badly on a motorcycle last week. He had an operation on his knee 8 days ago at Bangkok Hospital - Pattaya. They operated twice on different days as the surgeon wasn't happy with the operation the first time and went in again with his senior colleague for the 2nd operation.

Bottom line is that my friend is very unhappy with proceedings and would really like a second opinion from a competent orthopaedic surgeon. Money is no object. He's 55 years old and wants to walk again. I suggested that Bumrungrad is the best hospital in Thailand and he should go there asap.

Could anyone suggest a very good orthopaedic surgeon to consult in the Bangkok - Pattaya region?

I'd agree with you, Bumrungrad.

Also I have heard very good reports on the Navy hospital in Sattahip.

Dr. Sarit at Bangkok Hospital in Bangkok.

You will not find a better bone man in Thailand.

Do you have his last name? All I can find for Sarit at Bangkok Hospital is Dr. Sarit Hutakowit - a urologist.

I'd like to find a specialist who treats his patients like people. One thing that really upset my friend in Bangkok Hospital - Pattaya was the way they treated and communicated with him. He felt it was 100% about money there.

A friend of mine was taken there. He came out with more problems than he went in with and 100,000 baht lighter. The government hospital in Banglamung is much better and a fraction of the price.

Go to Bangkok Hospital in Bangkok, better then Bumrungrad, and cheaper also

Hete's your man:

It's pronounced Sarit but he spells it Sarij I guess (to reflect the Thai spelling).

Good luck.

I was looking at his very impressive list of qualifications. He seems almost entirely focused on spinal surgery. The last course he did on knees was in 2004.

I did notice when they list orthopaedic surgeons on the Bumrungrad site they have specialists for various areas of the body. Perhaps we should be looking for a doctor who focuses on knee surgery???

If you are a Thai and can't afford anything else, and even then, there is no guarantee

It was reported in the local newspapers last week that they forced a Thai Girl to go to Chonburi with a broken leg because the doctor on duty didn't want to set the leg

Chose the surgeon, not the hospital!

And yes, should be an orthopod specializing in Knees. There are many subspecialties within orthopedics and no one surgeon is the best in all of them,

For knees, Dr. Mason and Dr. Panya at Bumrungrad are both hoghly recommended by other TV members

Both trained abroad. Dr. Mason did a fellowship at Harvard and is US board certified.

Dr. Mason at Bumrungrad is a great referral. He is very skilled and well educated.
