December 24, 201114 yr Hmmm.. be merry and have good cheer. NOT sure where to put this one... The program is new, and I looked forward to expanding my creditials. Completing a Thesis in the Thai system has turned out to be an ordeal.. At times, I wonder if a revenge factor for Thai Ph.Ds studying in America or England, is to become super critical of the content, a native English writer applies in writing. YES it is important to develop a working relationship with the T advisor.. However, I wonder how much of the patronage system still remains even with Western educated Ph.D Thesis Advisors? Should not the advisor encourage and even inspire their students in future research endeavors? Has anyone completed their MATEFL in a Thai University? Do you recall your Thesis process? Happy Holidays
December 24, 201114 yr I do not have any experience of the MATEFL or the thesis process here in Thailand. i do know several Thai Ph.D's and Masters graduates however. From what I have seen from them, they seem to look upon the effort it took to receive those degrees as the completion of a life's work, rather than the basis for a life's work. I hope you're right about your 2012 prediction. Not because I'm an anglophone, but because I think it could really provide a way to expand the way many Thai students think about and perceive this world, both inside and outside of Thailand.
December 24, 201114 yr Author The MUIC and CMU debate teams and clubs have been holding regional trainings....The high school levels in BKK are in place, trying to include other regions, the northeast is emerging in this area..Kudos to the KKU Debate Teams and brain trust..
December 24, 201114 yr One suggestion I might make MR. Rhys, is that you have one of the friendly forum moderators move this post, and maybe your other one too, over to the teacher's forum. While not every foreign teacher here in Thailand is up to the standard we might wish for our own chidren, many are. I've noticed several in that particular subforum that really do take a professional interest in the academic advancements of their pupils and I think you ought to share this information with them. It's fantastic as far as I'm concerned and i'm not an educator. Carry on with your good works and DO share this information with those who are similarly inclined but perhaps not up to the stage you are. I wish you every success in your endeavours.
