Hi guys my macbook fan gets really noisy in a while when i turn on my skype.

Is there anywhere to resolve this or can i just leave it on as it is ?

I switch off Skype whenever the fan gets noisy which mean i can't leave my Skype on all day long.

Odd that only one program would cause laptop to run hot. Skype is normally smooth on my macbook, although I have not used it in a while. Core2duo 2.2ghz, 4gb ram, ssd drive, 10.6.8. I doubt i will upgrade to lion anytime soon or ever. They are coming out with new operating system too often. If it aint broke, don't fix it. But maybe that's the windows half of me talking?

PS: hopefully someone will move over to the apple forum?

happened to me long ago. when SKYPE was in use ( audio chat or video chat ), the mac book was so slow and fan boosting up. eventually I have to shut it down. it was a problem from the audio driver.

may not be the same case, just a hint to check all the drivers. SKYPE is quite robust.

Check that you have latest version of skype, then run "disk utility" and repair disk permissions. Since the fan is getting busy, it means that CPU is getting load.

The UI in the latest version of Skype(5.4) is abysmal and a huge waste of screen real estate. Have a look at the reviews here and then download Skype version 2.8 instead. Many users have reported stability issues with v 5.4, so v 2.8 may even help with your problem.

Repairing disk permissions is always a nice placebo, but it will not help with problems involving processor usage. Next time you have the overheating problem, open Activity Monitor and have a look at what process is using your processor.
