Us Consulate - Chiang Mai....

As is the procedure at the US Embassy in Bangkok, does the US Consulate in Chiang Mai service 'walk-ins', (those w/o appointments), who are in need of notary services?

No. They only take appointments, except for picking up a new passport or reporting a death, serious injury, sickness. Form the website:

"To provide consistent and equitable service to the many U.S. citizens who live in and visit northern Thailand, we use an appointment system for all non-emergency services listed above..."

I live in Chiang Mai and find them to be extremely professional and helpful. (I travel for work and find this to be one of the better staffed Consulates to deal with.)

I've found that in BKK if you do a walk-in at ACS after lunch at 1- 2pm (but not after!) they'll generally look after your needs but booking an appointment is always preferred so that they can gauge the volume of traffic...

No, you cannot obtain notary services at the CM consulate without an appointment.

They do notarial services on Tuesdays and Thursdays and they show good availability of appointments for this Thursday and all throughout January. Much better than the CM Immigration appointment system which is pretty much booked solid for the next six weeks. At least CM Immigration handles walk-ins, but oh what a pain it is to be a walk-in there for a visa extension!

Thanks so much for all the prompt and informative responses, your 'right-on' details helped me make the correct decision to drive to the US Embassy - Bkk where I not only walked in at 1:35 PM and was out shortly after 2 PM, I even found (one of those rare[?]) parking spaces right down the street across from the Japanese embassy!
