They are now issueing special event specific WPs to farang musicians on a case by case basis. I think it was decided that there was a bit of prestige associated with having a few foreigners playing at Govt. sanctioned events. A step in the right direction.

Uhhh....the farang musicians have been back for a long time now. Guess some of you don't get out too often? They are everywhere - almost. I'm not saying exactly where though!ph34r.png Just like everything else in Thailand, these crackdowns never last long.

There was no real "crackdown." That notion was all dramatically overdrawn. The people at Labour have always been permissive of amateurs performing on an unpaid basis. Now, perhaps more so, given appropriate official permission, which is basically available upon asking. There has been, on ThaiVisa, much more heat than light shed upon (peed upon?) the "GREAT RAID" and this general matter. If you have further questions about this matter, questions will be answered quite straight-forwardly by the department, if you bother to ask.

Oh Mapguy, I really really liked you until this post.

Last night, we, (and yes, I was one of the two) were the only farangs playing legally in Chiang Mai province. The Thai guy (in the middle) is the head of the labour department and had issued one night

work permits for the event. The next LEGAL opportunity to play will be December the 1st 2012 :(
