Surfing The Web In Thailand

Featured Replies

I was asking myself yesterday, when randomly landed in a very gore website. Is it legal to surf any website not censored or have to be careful? There's a list of forbidden websites or just someone have to stop when see the government logo instead of the site looking for?

Many thanks

Max

Like in most countries there's no one in Thailand who is assigned to routinely check your ISP's access log for all the web sites you have been visiting. So even if you accidentally hit a nasty web site, that shouldn't worry you. Unless, of course, you already are under scrutiny from authorities for some reason - I presume you are not.

Of course it's always better avoiding to accidentally open a web page mentioning He Whose Name We Do Not Speak in any way. Even if not explicitely blocked. Just in case...

Why should it be illegal to explore the internet?

What you should have concerns about is if you revisit certain sites, say child porn, known terrorist sites or such because many might be watched and IP's logged.

I have known gaming sites to have links to some depraved stuff but I reported the link and person and they have been removed very quickly. It is too easy for some to post an innocent looking link that will take you to a bad site but if you revisit, then that is another matter.

As far as I am aware, it is not illegal to visit porn sites here but the Thai authorities do not want you to view Thai porn. Bad face for Thai to be seen in porn. The authorities seem to have no problem with you visiting other asian porn sites though.

Happy surfing :)
