A newbie question!

I have a SD card full of thousands of pictures from an Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 camera I bought in Bangkok. Some of the photos have associated text stamps that have not been stamped onto photo with camera but can be seen of camera playback but not on the SD card in a computer?

Where is the text data stored within camera and it is possible to extract, besides stamping into photos on the camera itself?

Thanks, I used Adobe Photoshop Elements which shows EXIF under the file properties but the Lumix data seems to be missing. Some is there, but other stamps such as the baby / age text stamps feature when taking snaps of babies seems to be not there. The Lumix manual says it must be printed onto a new photo using the camera I think?

Do you have a Lumix yourself? Maybe I am wrong on my understanding.

I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 and all photos I've taken show the EXIF data. Example below using FastStone Image Viewer. Any chance some of those with missing data was edited and the data lost when doing so?

Thanks. I tried Farstone, and get the same result as your attachment. My question is related to the SCN settings on the Lumix (they are on the GH2 as well - but I have never used a GH2). On my LX3 I have used SCN settings for pets and babies where the names of pets & babies along with ages at time of photo are saved on the camera and can be printed onto the photo. There doesn't seem to be a way of just seeing this data as in EXIF without changing the photo? I could be wrong.

The Lumix comes with a "photofunstudio" application (my TZ10 did anyway). You can use that to add whichever of the stored details you want to the image on your PC. The batch processing is simple to use and creates new images with the text stamp, leaving the originals pristine - handy in case you mess up.

edited for speeling :)

You could try this plugin if you are running Firefox > Exif Viewer . It allows to view the EXIF/IPTC and manufacturer data from either a website or a local file on your computer. Here is an example when I selected the checked items shown and the amount of data the plugin will display.

Thanks for those links.

They didn't help unless I missed the tag though.

In the end I found a Java applet called PhotoGrok that shows more EXIF data than any we have mentioned above, including an EXIF IFD0 tag that has the data I was looking for (animals and babies ages at time photo was taken, including names of animals and babies). So you were right in that it is in the EXIF data, but very hard to find.

Now I need to extract the EXIF data onto a photo for a slide show. The camera can do it photo x photo but I have too many photos. Any recommendations for a software - but it would need to read EXIF IFD0 data?
