Psychologist - What'S Required To Practice Here

Recommended Posts

I have no idea where to start with this query, so I thought I would toss it into the forum and see where it leads me.

What is required to practice as a psychologist here?

The goal is to open an office where English speakers could come for one-to-one counseling.

I also understand that a work Visa would be required -- and a friend has already recommended his very competent attorney for this purpose.

Does anyone know what is required?

The title of "psychologist" doesn't matter so really I guess the question could be widened to be "what is required to be a clinical-psychology style therapist?"

Thank you one and all.

Not sure what would be required. A employer must have I believe it is 5 Thai staff as well.

What qualifies you as a clinical-psychology style therapist?

Perhaps a business visa. You might want to check over n the visa forum.

I would imagine if this very competent attorney can get you a work visa, then he would give you most of the information you require as he would need to know your details..

I'm betting a Thai ID card for starters.

Just what qualifications do you have, and from where?

To be honest I wonder why you would ask this question on a webbaord such as ThaiVisa.

Surely it's very unlikley that TV members (with all respect to fellow TV members) would have specific answers to your questions, surely you should know yourself, from your own professional knowledge about accreditation etc, etc, where to head for answers to your questions.

Actually there are a number of western psychologists/counsellors working in Thailand. While some may be of questionable legal status and qualification, many are fully qualified in their country of origin and working in a formal clinical setting, e.g. major hospitals, PSI, Bangkok Psych Associates etc.

If you want to know about licensing requirements, I suggest you contact one of these organizations and/or the western pyschologists working at them:

NCS New Community Services

61/1 Soi Intamara 3

Sutisan Road

Phaya Thai (Sapan Kwai Area)

Tel.: 0-2279 8503

Psychological Services International

9/2 Sukhumvit Soi 43 (near Phrom Pong/Emporium)

Bangkok 10110,

Tel: 02-2591467

Fax: 02-2620505

Licensing issues aside, if you want to establish your own business then there are a host of requirements including a business visa, a Thai partner(s), etc etc. A lawyer can advise on that and you might also be able to get pertinent info in the business and visa forums.

So rude. Why do I even come to this forum, ever. ?
