In an article in the Bangkok Post on 27 February 2012, the provincial health office chief of Chonburi province is quoted as saying that horseshoe crab roe is poisonous during the breeding season (late January until June). This is usually eaten in yam khai maengda. It can be found in the southern provinces and i have eaten it many times in breeding season with no ill effects.

Does anyone know if this claim is well founded? Seems dubious to me. I have put this in the health forum. Perhaps it belongs in the Thai food forum.
